Refresh my memory Ray, what trans? Still what, 3 or 4 mph down from the BB? Just wondering how much you've spent making the switch. Thinking maybe the 9300 I just dropped into the conventional 59 degree small block for the Valiant could've got me a long ways towards a modern engine! I keep telling myself I'm too old to switch, so I'll just live vicariously through you and the black pearl.
Great progress. Any more thought about getting legal for 9s, or just making it more comfortable on the street?

the BB would run 9.50s at 139-140

bought the shortblock for 2k and eagle heads for $420, intake for $550 from MM , valvecovers for $450 thru Bob George, ebay $700 dominator, NHRA Mark's partner did my motor plate and timing cover for (I don't want to say because I think he did me a favor). 2 sets of sparkplug wires off ebay for $50 each. Cam less than $400, pushrods, manley valve springs and things for about $500. Spent around 3k fixing the shortblock(new pistons, bolts, one rod, etc) headers $700, oil pan, pickup and try $250
Great progress. Any more thought about getting legal for 9s, or just making it more comfortable on the street?
right now, I'm not sure what my plans are with the car. just might drive and enjoy it for a while. spending $130 to go to the track to make 3 passes is just not money well spent

Geeez Ray what does that $130 consist of? I live close to the track so a test day for me is less than $50 fuel and all.
I hope you change your mind on drag week, but I can't get super excited about the drives either.

I don't have a truck or trailer so I put $60 in diesel in my friends truck. 100 miles to 1/4 mile track for me. track, $35. lunch $15. gas in my car $20, add in the bar with dancing girls on Friday night and it was an expensive weekend

I tried a 3.50 gear in my D-50 and I ran a 6.39, with a 4.56 I ran a best of 6.29. Almost all of the gain was in the 60ft ,but I crossed the finish line in second.I have a 315/60 on the rear, Supposed to be right at 30 in. tall.

Your 60 is killer. That gives me hope it could run in the 9s.
But I doubt I will change gears unless I got a gear vendor

no it wasn't crowded. got there at 1230. they didn't start running till 1:30-2, got 3 passes in, then there was a oil down. waited an hour and said oh the hell with this because it was almost 5 and they close at 6.
the converter was the same one that was behind the BB, its probably to tight also

Nice runs. I know you did some porting work on the heads but did that price include the valves and are you running a stock cam. And PLEASE give us more info on this part and pictures if possible. add in the bar with dancing girls on Friday night and it was an expensive weekend. My Son Matt visited the local strip bar by PRP last year and a girl??? with real hairy legs started coming on to him.

904 with a low gear set I bet would get you a couple of tenths. A low gear set in your 727 would put it in the 9's for not too much money. I personally would rather do it with no overdrive. Less weight and one less thing to go wrong. Seems like Murphy chases me around at times. Lol
