it is erratic firing from the coil wire.It sparks when just beginning to crank and when you let go of the key and the sparks are very erratic in between,no distinct pattern. It may spark 3 times a 1 second apart then not spark again for another 4 seconds. I had the ign. coil tested today at two different places and both checked it OK.It is a 73 Charger with electronic ign. I had the ign. control module checked out it also was OK
The rotor button is turning. How often is the coil SUPPOSED to fire??Thanks for the replys so far.

4.75v at the + side of the coil with the wires hooked up and key switched to ON I disconnected the wire from the + side and it is 9.9V .Does this seem right??

no, its low. it should be around battery voltage when the wire is disconnected. youve got a low battery of a voltage drop somewhere

You're battery is good right? you might (1) run 12V fron the batt positive over to the coil positive and( for several seconds only) see if it'll start. (2) w key on you might hold the coil wire(the dist end) 1/4" from ground & jump the coil negative primary terminal to ground & see if you get a spark from the coil wire as you take the jumper off of its ground(repeatedly).

12.5V at the battery:As you suggested,I ran a jumper from the battery positive to the coil positive , {12.5V}.With the same results.Sporatic sparks from the coil wire and NO sparking from plug wires.Needless to say,It didnt try to crank. RapidRobert,On the second test,do I need to take the original wire off the negative primary terminal before I put on the jumper wire?

Silly question, but when you are checking for spark at the plugs, are yuo grounding them out to something?
Now I need to pin those needles, got to feel that heat Hear my motor screamin while I'm tearin up the street

OK,I took off the original wire off the - side of the coil and hooked a jumper wire to it I took the coil wire off the dist. cap and laid it 1/4 from metal bracket. Turned key to RUN-Tapped other end of jumper wire to ground -creating sparks there at the end of the jumper.. NO sparking at the coil wire So,what does this tell me? Thanks for your help guys..and your patience!!! Yeah,I was grounding the plugs.

your jumping 12V to the coil positive primary & grounding the coil negative primary terminal & pulling it away from ground intermittently & the coil secondary wire held 1/4" from another ground has no spark as you make/break the neg to ground. No spark = a deceased coil

Please tell me it isn't an orange control box you have.
If it will TRY to start when you STOP cranking it over, it sounds weird, but try another ECU that you KNOW works.
No spark while cranking, let the key go and it TRIES to fire sometimes? Is that it?
