I have a few questions for my 1970 dude.
1. What headers work best with a big block?
2. What four speed and pistol grip shifter work best for an 833?
3. What's a better fuel tank system other than the in cab tank?
4. What to do with the front susp. And brakes while retaining the straight axle?
5. Also which oil pan? Aftermarket or stock
6. Any repro dash pads or door panels?
7. Who makes the best aftermarket rust repair?
I'm sure there will be more as I am new to the sweptlines. Thanks guys!!!

I suggest you check with www.sweptline.org (or .com ) They can provide a lot of answers. But I'll take a shot at a few of them.

2) All the Pistol Grip shifters were attached to an 833 (many trucks did NOT have an 833). The question is which one will best fit your truck. The answer is: Unless there is a specific truck pistol grip, probably none of the car ones will work well. The car floor pan is a lot closer to the trans then a truck floor pan. That additional distance will mess with you. A bench seat in your truck will make things worse.

3) Ramchargers had a rear mounted tank fit between the frame rails. You will probably need to swap out the rear crossmembers as well. Someone (not me) had an 18 gal rear tank and crossmembers for sale in the Truck swap area here, I think.

4) Remove some leafs & add a front sway bar if your truck doesn't have one. Maybe someone makes a disc brake conversion for the Sweptline trucks, I know there are kits available for the 50s beam axles. I'd start at www.rustyhope.com

5) A beam axle truck requires a different pan the any of the 72 & newer trucks (even newer 4x4s, are different then Sweptline trucks), I suspect your options will be rather limited.

6 & 7) Very few repo parts are made for the Sweptline trucks. Your best bet for finding stuff will be the Sweptline site listed above or maybe www.vintagepowerwagon.com If anyone is making parts for your truck, be thankful. They will likely be your best and only choice. Good luck. Gene

My 64 has a rear crossmember shaped for mounting a spare. A '73 Newport gas tank will nestle in there, but I need to add a crossmember to support one end of the tank.

Spectra Premium has a huge selection of gas tanks and you can troll the pages looking at dimensions.
If you can stand to put a hole in the side of the bed, a F150 or Bronco tank will fit back there, too.

Measure twice, cut once!

Scarebird has the kit to add disk brakes to your spindles. Sometimes they sell them on the 'bay.

Headers should be easy. My buddy used car headers on his. Thees plenty of room so most should fit. I see a company called Exline making lots of body parts for these trucks. I have not used them but their Webpage shows many available.

I have a 64 sweptline I'm putting a BB in. This what I've learned so far...oil pan is easy...front sump is stock... rear sump will work too. Don't use a center sump.

Stock..the BB sweptys used center dump manifold on both sides. For headers the cheap full size headmans seem to work....but I'm going with the stainless shorty style headers.. they can be had on eBay for under $200. They exist more like stock and seem to give more clearance (I'm willing to give up a little power for clearance).

The disk brake kit mentioned above is the cheapest way to go. Sid's makes a drop front axle too.

I'm installing a 833 OD trans and plan on using a shifter from a mid/late 70's truck. I already bought it but don't know about fit yet. Its meant for a truck... so I would think its my best bet. Its not a pistol grip...but its a Hurst unit...swap the ugly stock knob for a hurst ball for looks.

Not all years big block used both center dump manifolds. How are you going to mount the trans since a cross member was not used until 69, the early trans just hung out on it's own.

I'm pretty sure all the earlier swept lines used the center dumps... not sure about the later ones.

Someone had already put a trans cross member in my truck and had cut and removed part of The old bell crossmember.
