SO I fired up the Hemroid today & immediately it didn't sound right. No wonder---- I had oil coming out the driver's side collector! Now I'm kind of a pessimist, so I'm figuring I got BIIIG issues, probably rings, that is going to force me to pull the motor & get it fixed.
However, I haven't done anything yet, so anyone want to take a guess what it is? I have a pan-evac system on it, & a full exhaust system but I can't imagine it having that much of a detrimental effect on it. Could the pan-evac actually be sucking THAT much to cause this? If so can anyone recommend a vacum pump/mount system that'll work on a Hemi with a motorplate?

That's a great start, thanks! Tomorrow calls for doing that, a compression test & inspection of the valvetrain to see if anything is obviously out of whack.

I have a pan-evac system on it, & a full exhaust system

this is not a good idea ,back pressure could blow the valves out too

for the street have the hose off to the side and plug the valves up

o just the breathers & no pan-evac? Isn't that retaining a bit too much internal pressure for the motor?

yes

pull the breathers off and try to blow thougth them ,if there clogged up , carb spray/ breakcleen them

sometime the screan mesh might be too much and the motor don't breath good

I don't run a pan evac under any racing conditions, let alone a street car with closed exhaust

Pull the E-vac tubes for testing...if you have 5"HG
or more the E-vac will NOT work... a E-vac will pull
a MAX of 5"hg so if your exhaust has greater than 5"hg
of back pressure it will back up in the E-vac and burn
out the check valve and start to pressurize the crank
case.... MOST guys never test the back pressure on
their cars and have no idea what it is...if its a
real good system it may have less than 5"hg BUT for
every inch of back pressure you reduce the draw on
the engine by that same amount up to that 5"hg...
all these people on here that say NEVER USE IT WITH
EXHAUST have never tested their own car.. yes it didnt
work on their car so it cant work on any is their GUESS
EDIT
Back to your problem... pull the plugs on that bank
and see if they are oil soaked.... very well could
be the intake isnt sealed and its sucking oil in on that
bank

most street mufflers restrict to much , ive seen the intake pan gasket blow right up like a balloon, p body you talk so much on the flow , did you test it threw the full power band under a load , don't over think it . use common sense.

most vac pumps work on a plate like star, aerospace, moroso

Thanks, all. It looks like I'll have to test it without the pan-evac & after checking the breathers for obstructions. I pulled the plugs on the left bank & they were all so black they looked like charcoal.
So with no pan-evac system & a full exhaust, just rely on the breathers to do their job? That seems too simple (assuming nothing else shows broken or damaged)

I put in over 400 hours testing it at work on the
dyno up to peak power... with full exhaust of different
types down to just headers... I do have a clue about it

GOOD NEWS! I capped off the pan-evac, checked everything that I could see/feel or smell , replaced the plugs & all looks good! Thanks to those that provided the info to chase down a problem I, quite honestly, never encountered before. The car's still not perfect but at least it doesn't resemble the Exxon/Valdez........

Good to hear.... do you have baffles in the valve covers...
when/if you run a e-vac you need real good baffles
and in a low oil area... I usually put them over the
second rocker shaft hold down at the front... like
I said before... if you have over 5"hg back pressure
you dont want to use the e-vac

Why the "your story"... I worked in the exhaust lab
at Chrysler for 35 years.... why should I BS you..
I just like the FACTS to be put out there... not a
guess

I also had a bad e-vac valve, pressurized the crank case and was blowin the breather off the valve cover. Switched to 2 puke tanks, problem went away with no oil in the puke tanks.
