Ron,

Here is a pic (was hard to get a clear one due to the angle and location on the windshield) but it says TINT SHADED so I don't know if it would have been classified as just TINTED when you could have ordered it.

Does the windshield have a band on top and then a lighter tinting throughout the rest of the window?

Ron,

Yes, there is a band at the top of the windshield. As for the tinting, its hard to tell but whatever it is from the band all the way down is unform and does not transition from darker to lighter or anything like that. So if the tinting was there like the etching says, its either so light or faded out from age. Maybe if I had the windshield out, I could compare it to a clear piece of glass.

69Boss302,

Here are the pictures from the other thread where they compare the glass, specifically ones of the E body quarter glass. Frankly, I see nothing wrong between the two which you were complaining about. It even seems that the glass appears to be the same thickness as the originals.

My 70' windshield was tinted with the shading at the top original so that's not an issue. I just want one that fits looks right and doesn't cost a grand.

I think half of the problem with the glass is that a majority of the price ends up being the shipping. Heck, the windshield I got, the shipping was darn near half the cost of the actual windshield but, again, you are shipping something fragile and over sized. A lot of the places by me locally did not have a windshield that old for my car. So you are kind of stuck going with what you can get where you can get it.

I just put a windshield in my Demon last month and found two of the posted places that could sell me date coded but the shipping was about the cost of the windshield so I found a local place that got me a PPG and then even paid him to do the job and was $275 all in and my hands stayed clean this time!!!

That is exactly the same logo that's on my original '69 windshield.
Although it is marked tint shaded, it is the same tint as the
other glass in the car, no darker shading at the top.

Demon,

I'll bet that your glass has a AS1 with an arrow on it. The tinted band was very faded on ours almost to the point of blending in with the rest of the tinting. If it shows what is etched into the glass like mine, than more than likely yours was faded out as ours was. I've heard it was a common thing for the colored plastic where the banded part was to fade since the glass itself was not tinted but the actual plastic laminate was.

In fact the quarter windows were bowed so severely the metal pieces that mount on the edge wouldn't even fit. Also showed them pictures where the door glass were missing several holes at the bottom of the glass making them virtually impossible to install.

If you have the audacity to post lies, I have no problem posting the truth. You claim to have "tons" of photos but haven't posted ONE to validate your comments. After you returned your glass, we took pictures of your quarter windows to prove that your complaints were without merit. We sent you these photos on Friday August 12, 2011 @ 1:07 PM. Below are those photos of YOUR GLASS placed on top of the original unit that we use for comparisons. There are 3 mounting holes in the original example and 3 holes in our reproduction replacement. I think anyone who can count will see that our glass has 3 holes just like the originals. Can you please explain to everyone here why you have lied about the "bowed so severely" shape of our Cuda Quarter glass and the "several holes" missing that made the glass "virtually impossible to install"?

You're just confirming what everyone was quietly thinking to themselves as we've read the unfolding drama...resq302 quietly guided everyone to see through it...Good thing you keep organized records for just such an event{as you've proved before}...ECS offers top quality parts, decals and services but unfortunately that also seems to make you a target for some crazy, fabricated lies.. Whatever the underlying motivations are...
They dug the hole and you nailed the coffin shut...Doe's anyone really expect a reply ??? Not likely IMO... Still better than TV though !!! ..

One thing is for sure! Posting pictorial facts sure has a way of stopping the lies and gossip! Is it possible that the actual intent of the complaint here was more about who than what was wrong?

I just had the windshield for my 71 Charger R/T installed with no issues. The date coded glass from ECS fit and looks perfect.

Just curious, did you install it or have a professional do it?

I had a pro do mine in the charger about 2 or 3 years ago but he pissed me off cause he did not use any liquid butyl like the factory service manual said and I knew that it would guarantee leak if I got caught out in the rain. So I watched him closely and about 2 hrs after he left, I ended up popping it out myself and sealed it up like it should have been and then reinstalled it.

If you don't care about date codes and logos you can get one at Safelite for around $300 tinted and shaded. They will install but charge to remove mouldings. The installation charge is cheap considering how it is sometimes a real pain in a 69 b body.

Maybe your Safelite close to you is good but the one in Fairfield, NJ where I brought my truck to, to get a chip repaired, they made me sign a waiver first and then proceeded to sell me a windshield for a stone repair. 45 mins later, they came back and "had some bad news" that while trying to apply the suction for the stone repair to get the resin in, the windshield now cracked and had a 6 inch long crack in it. "But we could give you a really good price on a new windshield" to the tune of $495 vs. the $50 stone chip repair. All I know is that I would never use Safelite at that location again.
