Does anybody sell b-body windshield with the correct stamp anymore? I was going to use my original that is in good shape but the shading at the top has just yellowed to much.

Just went through this myself.....Couple vendors do this but I am being told 6 to 8 weeks out due to the suppliers glass being on the middle of the ocean right now.

I understand they buff off the manufacturers stenciling and re stencil it with the right symbols date codes etc....

I just received a date coded windshield for a 71 Charger R/T form ECS. The quoted me 4-6 weeks for delivery but it only took 3. Everything looks good although I haven't tried to install it yet.

ECS as stated for B and Ebody's. PS Auto Glass I believe does it also and then there is http://www.autocityclassic.com/ which may be able to help you out.

Is the ECS windshield the same thickness as an original? Most aftermarket
Shields I have seen are much thinner

I think they are all thinner than the originals, I can check when I get home tonight. What is the original thickness supposed to be?

I haven't used ECS windshields, but I have bought their date coded side glass for a 70 AAR and it was absolute junk. Ended up using it for target practice since they would not take it back. If you buy their glass and don't immediately install it and then find out it won't fit they will not let you return it, so don't buy it unless you are going to install it immediately upon arrival. I would never buy their glass again and would recommend no one else buy it either.

Had the same problem as 69Boss302. Bought tinted & date-coded door & quarter glass for my 69 GTX from ECS several years ago and installed it shortly thereafter. The new windows were very hard to raise & lower. Finally a couple years later I took a straight edge to the door glass & found both were bowed in the middle by nearly as the thickness of the glass (0.5 cm).

Went back and forth with ECS about them not standing behind their product. Finally they agreed to replace them at a discounted price - $349 for the pair. I haven't installed them yet, but I made sure I put a straight edge to the new ones. They're out by 0.1 cm in several places, but I think they'll be okay.

Didn't like doing business with them the second time, but for the reduced price I did. My problem now is finding a glass shop to do the installation (the one I used before went out of business). I figure ECS's poor quality control & warranty will end up costing me ~$800. If you do buy them from ECS, strongly suggest you make sure at least they're flat across the horizontal plane before much time lapses.

Thanks I just need a windshield I have re-used all my original side glass as they are nice. Its amazing in this age for what we have to pay for stuff you have to worry about it even working. That's why with this restoration I have carefully used as many original parts that have come off the car as possible. I starting to think I should re-use my original windshield too. I thought Classic Industries offered stamped glass?

CaptainGTX,

I thought everything got resolved with this last August from the ForBbodies only forum when you posted your complaint there.

http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/showthread.php?58210-Ill-Fitting-Door-Glass-on-69-GTX

Is this still not resolved with them? It seems like waiting 4 years is an excessive amount time to wait to install the glass. The pics that ECS posted on the other forum show that the glass is identical even going as far as laying one on top of the other.

As far as their warranty, it seems like they were good on their warranty. I can't see it being their fault for waiting that length of time to install it.

I had my glass for about 7 months, sent them tons of pictures of how they were curved differently- -especially the quarter windows. In fact the quarter windows were bowed so severely the metal pieces that mount on the edge wouldn't even fit. Also showed them pictures where the door glass were missing several holes at the bottom of the glass making them virtually impossible to install. They even told me that they have a warehouse with every piece of original glass where they compare every piece of glass they sell to an original by placing an original on top and underneath to make sure they are curved correctly. That must be one heck of a huge warehouse just to house original pieces of glass. It only cost me about $1200.00., and they never offered to sell me replacement glass at a discount. They make some great products, but their glass isn't one of them.

69Boss302,

Can you post those pics? I'm curious to see how they would compare to the pictures in that other thread. Also, I wonder if maybe the way glass is stored could have something to do with it. I know that the auto glass place that I went occasionally when I was doing a lot of highway driving and had to have windshields replaced on an almost yearly basis when I was in college had all their glass stacked one way.

Many vendors offer the glass and windshields. The difference will be incorrect stenciling of the logo's and date codes.

You can get the correct look on a reproduction windshield from ECS or PS Auto. Again, they buff off the manufactures incorrect stenciling and re stencil using the correct logo and date codes. As far as I know they are licensed by Chrysler to do so.

You can get side glass from a couple vendors that are called blanks. Actually the DOT numbers are placed very low on the bottom edge of the glass and are not visible when installed. These are re stenciled as well by the above mentioned vendors with the correct markings. I believe the AMD or Classic Industries glass will have the incorrect markings and they will be visible when installed.

I can't remember for sure what ECS quoted for a windshield re stenciled and correct date code. I want to say like $450.

I believe PS will also sell the stencil kit but I am not sure about that. Or how hard it is to do yourself. I do know it is not easy to buff off the incorrect stenciling as my shop had a difficult time of it.

Are the markings on original glass stenciled or etched?
I was talking to a Mustang restorer a few years ago and he was boasting how he'd made up a template of original correct markings and then taken the glass to someplace that did some sort of small scale media blasting, and had them etch the correct markings on his glass using his templates. He said it came out great, was cheap to do, and the car ended up winning in OEM judging. I should have taken some notes of exactly what his procedure was.

CaptainGTX,

Correct me if I am wrong, but according to http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/showthread.php?58210-Ill-Fitting-Door-Glass-on-69-GTX where you received another set of glass in August of 2013, you still haven't installed it to see if it fit? After going through the ordeal and problems that you went through with the first set of glass, why would you go ahead and repeat the same mistake after understanding what their warranty policy was? According to the B body thread, its been 6 months since you received your replacement set. Will it still be ECS' fault if it doesn't fit because YOU (again) failed to verify it within the 90 days like it says on the box when you receive the package?

I don't have the answer where to buy the windshield but I also need
a '69 B-body windshield. Does anyone know how many windshield choices
were available, originally, as far as clear- tint- tint sunshade??
Mine has the original, it is tinted, the same as the rest of the glass, and is not sunshade.

our original windshield in our 69 GTX vert is tint shaded. As you said, I think there were three options available. Clear, tinted, and tint-shaded.

I personally have put ECS date-coded windshields in my 70 GTX, 70 Cuda, and 69 Coronet R/T.
I've purchased NOS side window glass from PS Auto glass for my 69 Coronet Convertible. Also have purchased and installed a date-coded windshield from Auto City Classic for my 71 GS. Zero problems with each install and purchase.

I believe back in the day it was Clear or Tinted Only. The Shaded windshields are all we can get now a days.
I said Believe not 100% sure.
