I've got 4 833/833OD that I need to mix and match to get 2 or 3 working units from ;

1) B-Body 833 non OD cast case with bent tailshaft
2) A-Body 833 non OD cast case
3) B/E-body 833 OD aluminum case
4) B/E-body 833 OD aluminum case

What I'd like to end up with are ;

1) A-Body 833 OD aluminum case to put in my 74 Duster behind a mild 360
2) B/E Body 833 or 833 OD for my 70 Challenger behind a mild 440
3) B Body 833 for my 70 Charger Daytona clone project behind a built up 451

Questions -

Can I swap the tailshaft from the A-body 833 and one of the B/E body 833 OD's?

Can I replace the tailshaft from the B-Body 833 with the one from the other 833 OD?

Thanks for any help.

No , the mainshafts for OD are different where 3rd gear rides is smaller than NON OD .

You'll also note that most A body OD's had 904 sized output shafts, I think iI still have an OD A body shaft, but the tailhousing for it went out in my last scrap load last fall .

Can I use a OD shaft in the non-OD housing that I have?

PM me if you're willing to part with that OD shaft.

Questions -

Can I swap the tailshaft from the A-body 833 and one of the B/E body 833 OD's? No. The tailshaft and the output shaft have to be paired. The internals of the OD and the standard 833 are not interchangeable.

Can I replace the tailshaft from the B-Body 833 with the one from the other 833 OD? Maybe, though I think that the bearings may be different.

Thanks for any help. Heck yeah.

I would take the bent one out and remove the bearing that rides in the case, measure the the diameter of the shaft where the bearing rides on and then take the other tranny apart that you want to swap parts with and remove and measure the output shaft where that bearing rides on, if they are the same install the parts you want to use on that shaft and assemble it If there not the same diamerter see if there is a bearing that has the proper I.D. and O.D for the case and shaft that you want to use, if so get one and go for it If not make another plan like having the bent output shaft straightened

No you can't , the shaft I have has a 904 sized output which is smaller in diameter than the non od 833 A body output which is 727 ... unless the first year of the slip yoke A body 833 is 904 sized and you would have to have that trans to begin with.

Cab, it's not the bearing, 307 and 308 bearing have the same ID where it goes on the shaft. It's the end of the shaft where 3rd gear rides, it is physically smaller than a non OD trans.
