I have my motor out replacing my headers and checking the trans. The motor has been together for two seasons. approx 130 passes. No problems. Iron block with iron heads and ARP head studs. Should I retorque the head studs or leave it alone? It has Felpro 1009 gaskets.

I've done it both ways, run the motor without testing and retorqueing and have retorque them once thsy came off the dyno. You know you want to check them correct Now is the time to do it, I would set the torque wrench to the same spec as before and check all of them Let us know the results, there are some members who swear you MUST ALWAYS retorque, esepcially with composition head gaskets and other like Mrpbody and me who will go either way on this subject

I don't usually re-torque them. However I did check them on a Hemi I sold to a friend. We had used Aruzza composite gaskets on it. I was glad that I checked it as there were some stud/ nuts that needed tightening.
After this, I checked the torque on my Hemi that has Cometic gaskets and not a single nut moved!

If you go through the pattern one stud at a time, backing them off a quarter turn and then going right to the proper torque in one move there won't be any chance of disturbing the gasket, and it may show some of them loosened a bit. I am not betting on much change at all, based on the iron heads. But it can't hurt, and you will know for sure next time.

I always re torque in the method that Greg outlined above. Loosen them one at a time, 1/4 turn. You'll be suprised how much more than the 1/4 turn it takes to get back to full torque.
