What power valves are you running and what is your vacuum at idle? If the power valves are open at idle, that would cause both problems that you describe. How is the distributor set up?

Block the power valves, they will not work on a Tunnel Ram.You will have enough fuel that you won't need them.Sometimes with a Tunnel Ram & 2 carbs you have more cfm's (air)than you have fuel & need to richen(add more fuel) it up.

For best results on a tunnel ram, block the power valves, convert the carbs to 4-corner idle circuits, install a 50cc accelerator pump on each carb. For the secondaries, get the spring kits (2), and put the stiffest spring in both of them to start. For jetting, you'll want to start about 4 numbers leaner than stock for the carb. The secondary plates that you can put jets in would be a real good idea so that you can lean down the back side also. This will get you in the ballpark, In reality you would be better with a pair of 600 double pumpers, but the vacuum secondary carbs can be made to work. Tunnel rams aren't that hard to dial in, but they seem to scare most people away.

I run two 750 Demon DP on my small block. 77 jets at all eight corners, no power valves, 30cc pumps and .028 squirters. It's a little fat right now so I need to do some tuning but it's very close.
