First, does anyone have any track/power results in going from one to the other?? Second, what is the height difference between the two?

Thanks!

Tony the wagon is fast enough

Be careful of the racing gremlins next thing you know you will be putting a cage in it and putting some 15" wide tires under it

When the 440 Victor first came out, I did a same day, back to back test changing nothing but the manifold. I had a single plane M-1 with a 1" spacer and swapped it for the Victor with no spacer. I drop almost .200 in et and pick up almost 2 mph. Every car will be different though.

Rob - I'm trying, but whats a little old intake gonna do anyhow???

Greg - Do you recall the height difference between the two? I would be looking the 383/400 intake. BTW, 2 tenths and 2 mph is a pretty awesome improvement!

Mopar65 - I remember reading about Victor intake mods as well... It's been a while though. Good luck with your swap and let us know how it works for you.

If you look down in the plenum there is a bulge in all four corners. They are grinding those out and blending that part of the plenum into the roof of the runners. There were some good pics posted here a few months ago. Maybe that person will repost them. If they don't show up soon I'll find them and put them up.

2 tenths and almost 2 mph i think it would be worth switching.

I tried doing a search on that post and couldn't find it. but yea it's pretty simple just blend the wings out of the corners. Mine was a pretty gross casting too.

I found pics from 2 different threads, about 10 months apart. I don't know who posted these but they almost look like they could be pics of the same intake.

it would be nice to know what if any difference the clean up made, sometimes what you think should work doesn't.

gomangocuda thanks for the pixs. those are what i need to see.thanks. i found a moparts member to port the victor for me.but he can not do it untill the end of july. so i might throw the victor on. out of the box and see how it does.allso i bought 2 inch moroso carburetor adapter. so i can run my dominator on the victor.on the adapter the inside is as cast. should i smooth the inside or leave it like it is?
i plan on going to the track in about two weeks.
jamesc if i remember right on the last post.it was said after they ported the victor intake. it was worth 10-15 horsepower.but i am probly wrong though.mopoar65

The height of the MP M1 low deck intake was in the Tech Archives the last time I looked, and Edelbrock has the height of all their manifolds in their catalog/website.

This is my Victor with Dominator adapter. The black-lined areas will be reduced.

Bob, what type of gain do you expect to see going to the victor with your combo?

Thanks everyone for the input, and thanks 440Jim for the measurements. I measured the top of my aircleaner last night and found just over 1/2" clearance with a play-dough test. According to the dimensions of both intakes, there is a height difference of 1 1/8". I'm running a drop base aircleaner and short 2 1/2" element as it is, so looks like I'm sticking with my M1 for now.

Your car would look great with a SS scoop on it!
The only reason the scoop is on my car is so the manifold fits.

Tony, I switched and the Victor was I think 5/8 to 3/4" taller. I don't think it was an inch. I had to redo the foam seal on my air pan, but I don't think it was that much. The Victor is taller and straighter runners, I have had a hard time getting good idle quality like I had on the M1. Maybe my engine is too mild for what is probably better suited to higher rpms (max HP @ 6600) .600 flat tappet, stg. 6 mild port, 11.4 comp. Anybody else have idle trouble with the Victor? I can't give you performance change cause I also backhalved the car over winter.

My car idles just fine once it's warmed up. I spent a good amount of time tuning the carb, including chassis dyno time.

you can find engine specs here:Bigblockscamp.com

Gregg, mine gets better when it warms also. Until it warms what does yours do? What carb and tuning did you do? Thanks, Don

Wouldnt an Edelbrock Performer RPM be better for that heavy car?

My (470") with Victor chugs a bit until warmmed up. After hot it runs great.

Those were my intakes (I had both an unmodified Victor and the one on which I did the plenum mods) and the difference when dyno tested on Dwayne Porter's dyno was approx. 10 HP in favor of the modified piece.

Did a back to back test last fall between M1 Dominator and Victor with 4150 base and an adapter. Did two baselines then made the switch.
Car was ( at that time) 71 Cuda,440,3100# and saw approx .070 difference ( better with Victor). I cant say that the Victor or the adapter made the difference. Both these intakes were bone stock untouched. I did think the Victor ran smoother however, but didnt equate to any giant ET. I suspect the extra velocity and plenum area made the biggest difference.

When it's cold, it acts like a cold engine with no choke, no big deal. I had to re-jet, reduce the main air bleed size, reduce the idle feed restriction size, and open the power valve channel restrictions. Doing any of this without testing the A/F ratio is like shooting in the dark.

Typically, the Edelbrock intakes are very conservatively ported out of the box. They leave plenty of meat in the port to do your matching with. As such, they do not run steller times out of the box and pick up pretty good with a port match. I assumed that you did yours without any port matching. That could account for the smaller than anticipated gain.

Yes I realize that. Thats why I mentioned they were stock untouched. This way it was a true unbiased comparison. I also believe that I could have made a difference with a port match, but I was only comparing them in their "as is" states.
We knew we'd be changing engines in that car, but I will do a port match on it in the next car and document the change.
