I have a customer with a 440-6 in a road runner that runs 11.90's using a cam that's 241@ .050 on a 113lca but uses slicks and a 3.91 gear.

manifolds, full exhaust, Stealth heads with minor port work, 10.2:1...he does have some 1.5 rockers but not sure which ones...maybe HS?
He drives it everywhere he can!!

Yeah, Brian I'm with you!

The cam I put in that 416 stroker with the manifolds was very similar to that 440, a single pattern ~237 @ .050 on 112 in at 107, It's a torque BEAST that idles sweet and still pulled the heavy car up high. I think something similar would work on domingo's car and still have plenty of idle vacuum and part throttle cruise torque. My gut would be to put a 244/246-ish @ .050 solid in it and be a bit better down low AND up high.

Wish my old 440 had a set of ported stealth heads and slicks, trying to launch a B/E body on street tires (not even drag radials) was about like launching on ICE.

My buddy's Chrger has a 440-6 with a 251/257 @.050 Comp cam and runs high 11's with only 3.23 gears. He's running 2" headers, close to 11:1 and a good 9" converter though, which helps him launch. He drives it everywhere as well. Wouldn't run that cam with manifolds though But he doesn't even run drag radials, he runs that 4 shock (2 mounted horizonally about the rear leaf segment) traction system and it obviously works good.

You can still build some awesome 440 combos that are still impressive these days!

First thing you need is a tach.PERIOD.Past that I would check fuel pressure to make sure you aren't running out of fuel on the top end(especially if using a mechanical fuel pump).

^ Those guys have you covered on cam selection.I will say my okd 440 with the comp 280 cam was done making power aroung 5500rpm so I would suspect the 270 to be dome by 5200 or so.

I thought I was having fuel shortage and I installed a Holley Blue pump with a regulator and set it at 7.5 psi if IRC.

It didnt do a thing for the car, it performed just the same at the track....I tried staying on 3rd but it begged for me to shift into 4 it stayed flat on 3rd and didnt rev more....

When I shifted into 4th I just went thru the traps right after I had shifted.....while starting to rev up.

The engine is a NICELY built engine!!!! I think the cam choice just SUCKS!!!!

Needs to be swapped so my 440.6 can perform like it should!!! Still, it SPANKS my buddys 350 camaro everytime we nail it on the hiway while rolling....LOL....but next time I want to really embarass him.....

I do have an account with Bullet, they've been grinding custom grinds for myself and customers for years.....but

I remember Dwayne (Fast68Plymouth) also liked the 231/240 Crower cam, he's a great source for cam grinding as well. In several 'back to back' blind taste tests He and I usually spec cams that are uncannily close to one-other, (ask 70Blackfish as one example) which to me is an honor because I have tremendous respect for him I usually defer to Dwayne for people to buy cams from, after-all Engines are his bread and butter and career but for me it's much more a side-line ( I work full time as an engineer).

Hughes has got some nice grinds too but not aware if they do any custom grinds, I'm pretty sure Bullet does there cams now.

You cant go wrong with using Dwayne Porter. He is real good and I used his cam in my 493. It did just what I wanted and I am 100% happy. Ron

There are many cam gurus out there.. I would let Bob k. or Dwayne
set you in the right direction.. These two guys know how to make them
work with manifolds and street tires..

Good luck..
