I am building a 520 RB with cnc'd max wedge victors purchased from MCH. The cam i have in mind is comp xr292r. This will be pump gas half street half track engine.I am thinking of the 440-2 single plane. I am hopeing for 650 to 700 hp. Any advice from all would be great. Also has anyone tried the super victor. will it be practical on the street with the 4500 flange. I am new to this so.....

I would go with the indy 440 and a dominator. Probably be the max hp setup. Haven't heard anything good yet on the victor- but my lowdeck indy intake makes my regular 440 victor look like a briggs and stratton intake.

With that cam and your 1/2 street useage of the combo I think the Indy 440-2 would be to much intake for you. Even though your heads are MW for your combo I would consider the big Indy DP and blend the ports abit.

There may be a better alternative, Andy F posted pics of a new MW intake a little ways back that might be the ticket. Him or Streetwise will probably be able to help you out most on this decision. mike

The problem you may have is too small a carburator with a 4150 style intake.
You will probbably want to run an 1,150 cfm Dominator?
If you go with a 4500 style max wedge port intake, I think your choices are Edelbrock Super Victor and Indy 440-3. I think Andy has a B-1 intake with an adaptor, but I don't know how that worked out?

Does any body know what the super victor and the 440-3 flow for cfm. I know my heads flow in the 370's and i want to match a good intake to them.

I don't know about the super victor, but Hughes shows the Indy flowing 450+ cfm!

I think some of the advice given is more suited to a bracket race engine than a truely street driven street/strip setup.

That cam is pretty small for 520 CID, IMO.

You really have to ask yourself (and tell us), how much "street" do you want? I would run a little more duration, and use a "small" intake to get better street manners. Now don't get me wrong, with 520 CID, you can get by with a big, power producing intake, but driveability will be less.

The cam i am talking about is the xr292r. It is a solid roller, part #23-703-9. The lift is .582/.588 and duration at.50 is 254/260. I was planning 1.6 rockers. On the comp cam quest it makes alot more power than the hydraulic roller xr 292hr. The engine is 10.5/1 comp. The longest drive it does is to the track which is 1 hour away or cruising on the weekends for a couple of hours. To start it will probably be carburated but if i can scrape up the cash i would like to run some sort of efi system. The tranny is a rossler turbo 400 with the ultra bell and trans brake, reverse manual valve body, still sitting on the floor getting put in this winter and the diff has not been purchased yet but i think it will be a dana. The block has billet main caps and studs, and girdle. My plan was to overbuild everything and at the start run the street cam but leave room to grow.

I built a 512 low deck(4.375 x4.25 stroke) pump gas street motor several years ago for street and strip with ported big valve 906 heads, it made 612 hp at 5600 RPMs and 644 ft. lbs at 4500 rpm with a six pak and the OEM vavume carbs. on CA pump gas. The cam is a custom grind Comp Cams solid roller that is 260 @ .050 on the intake with .420 lobe lift, the exhaust lobe is 266@.050 with .409 lobe lift. I used a set of CAT 1.6 rockers(actual ratio was more like 1.54) originally and then step the motor up with a set of MCH CNC ported Eddy RPM heads and a set of the Harland Sharp 1.6 roller rockers(actual more like 1.62 at the retianers, .720 net lift intake and .700 net on the exhaust)then the next year I swap the 4.25 stroke crank for a 4.300 stroker crank to raise the compression from 9.25 to 1 to 10.29 to 1. I didn't dyno the motor after the head change but I did redyno it after the crankshaft and compression chamge, 720 HP @5800 rpm and 740+ ft. lbs. @ 4600 rpms on Oregon pump gas My main message is that your combination of motor parts will probally do real well with a bigger cam and a large intake system, big motors need and like big cams and lots of air. I wouldn't hesitate to use the 440-2 with a 1000 cfm 4150 carb or a 1050 Domianator with a adapter(if that will fit oaky in the car) or the 440-3 with a two inch reversion spacer or even better yet the Indy bathtub intake with two 750 (or bigger )carbs.

Personally, I think the XR292R would be a great cam for that combo. It will also be easy on valvetrain parts as well.
I say run the XR292R with the Indy 440-2 intake and a 1000 cfm Carb.
