Up a holler, down a crick
I've got a 2002 Ram 2500 and the nerf bars (running bars) have rusted off. Trying to figure out what to buy, it seems that for '02 the 2500 cab was different than the 1500. Apparently the 2500 cab is the same as 2001, so I'd need 2001 parts to fit my 2002 truck. Can someone confirm that's correct? This is a quad cab truck with reverse opening doors in the back. I'm trying to avoid ordering the wrong thing and getting stuck with them.

Also, can anyone recommend a vendor? The best price I've found is at runningboardwarehouse, but their web reviews make me doubt them.

Thanks

2002 was the body change to DR in the half tons and then the 3/4 in 03. To make it easier for ordering stuff for your 02 I'd say "yes" order something for an 01 2500 body.

Thanks It just seemed weird to me that they changed the body for half the product line.

New (then) Hemi engine and truck body, they wanted to debug those for a year in '02 1/2 ton rather than change both the heavy duty trucks at the same time and have on their face if there were any weaknesses. All went well (or revisions were made) when the 2500/3500 were upgraded in '03. Conservative approach, but probably makes good business sense, and you may see that same pattern again in the future.

BTW, with Nerf bars on this body style, plan on low hanging mud flaps on the front tires. When driving in snow without mud flaps, the nerf bars will gather ice and slush, putting your butt on the ground if you're not careful. BTDT!!

^ thanks

I'm just replacing what came on the truck now that they've rusted out. I agree you have to be careful stepping on the things though. Even worse is when you realize you could step through it from the rust under the step pad.

FWIW I ended up with a set of DeeZee bars from Jeg's.
