Could anyone point me to the options list available on the GT models? I see that the GT was available with most any engine from 225, 273, 318, etc.
Did it also get you a 8-3/4 rear?
Was it just an appearance package?
thanks!!

Some good info here.
http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/dealerships/1968DealershipDataBook-06.shtml

The 318 was the largest engine you could get in the GT. I think the 8 3/4 could have come in just about anything. It seems like there is no rhyme or reason to what A-bodies got the 8 3/4. My 318 vert has a 7 1/4 but I've seen /6's with 8 3/4's.

I had a 68 Barracuda notchback with a \6 that had a 8 3/4 from the factory The original owner (a lady in her 60's then) said that everything on the car came that way except for the new tires on it It was 12 years old with 60K on the odometer & we made a dirt track car out of it

it seems by looking at the axle options, that the gear ratios are either 2.93 or 3.23 for the GT in question w/ 273 V8 (sure-grip optional). Although it doesn't state if it's an 8-3/4 or 7-1/4.

I would think all V8's would get the bigger axle, especially if they had 14" optional wheels and "sporty" GT hubcaps!

I do know the difference BTW of the axles, looking to buy this 68 GT soon and don't have a confirmation on axle.

It took a manual trans or towing package for an 8-3/4. I had a 68 Dart GT 318, 727, 8-3/4 because it had a towing package. The GTS was basically a Dart GT with a 340 or 383, delete the side molding and GT badges, add bulge hood and GTS emblems, with the 383 ad 383 Four Barrel under the fender emblems, and paint the rear finish panel black on the outsides where they would be argent on a GT. The only change inside would be the GT to GTS emblems on the door panels.

yep, a nd yours has 13" rims, right? I don't think you could get 14" rims with a 7.25

You sure could get 14" wheels with a 7-1/4 with 10" drum brakes.

I honestly can't remember what size rims, but it does have the 10 drums from and rear.

I had a '67 Dart with a 273-4bbl auto with an 8.75, no idea of tow package or not.

Also had a '66 Formula S 'cuda with a 273-4bbl stick and it had a 7.25 rear. Both cars were original.

I do not know why some 273 4-bbl cars had 7-1/4 or 8-3/4 with auto's, might be a date thing? I have had both also.

It was related to when the car was built and possibly other options, as well.

My old 66 Barracuda (273-4/4sp) had a 3.23 geared 7-1/4 until I sheared the splines off one axle (previous owner had done the same to the other axle AND broke two sets of spider gears). That's when I put the first A-body 8-3/4 (3.23 Sure Grip) I had acquired under it.

The new rear had come out of a 67 GT with the Rallye Package (handling package/disc brakes), 273 four barrel, console, tach, etc.
