Hi All,

I have 4 questions on a 70 Challenger we're trying to get back together.

1 - Park Brake lever - is there a spring that holds the "ratchet" part from flicking over and disengaging from the main gear? If so how is the spring installed (where does it go and how is it orientated)? We have a spring kit which contains two springs (we know where the long one goes but cant seem to work the short one out)

2 - Spring for slapstick mechanism - pretty much the same as above - have the spring and know vaguely where it goes, but we need a diagram or photo to clear it up. Don't have a photo of this one.

3 - There's a bracket that came with the car that goes behind the RH rear wheel (we think) but cant work out how it fits any ideas? Its a California Car and it may cover the pollution gear but does seem to have a happy home anywhere under there - looks to be an OEM panel by the stamping.

4 - Drivers Side Mirror Adjustor Bezel - does anyone have a drawing of how this is installed into the door/door trim? the one we have is flapping in the breeze like it needs a part on the back to hold it to the door.

Apologies for what appear to be simple questions - if it was an Aussie Valiant - no worries! But its the first time we've put one of these back together.

I'm still trying to work out the photo posting bizzo...in the meantime if you can picture what I'm on about, please help!!!

Thanks in advance!

I'll get these photos in one at a time.

Previous pic was of bracket that goes behind RHR wheel.

This one is of park Brake mechanism. part in question is protruding from the top (it shouldn't be)

OK Last one Apoloies for the poor focussing.

Mirror adjustment bezel inside drivers door.

Mirror is on cable is in but nothing seems to be there to secure the bezel in place. Also there's no hook inside the door to hold the cable up.

All info/replies appreciated.

Thanks Again!

There's an clip which holds the mirror remote control to the door panel. Similar to what's on the picture here

Link didn't seem to work, so here's the image..

The part you need that "holds" the cable adjuster knob and the locking bezel is the flat-square shaped component between the screws and bezel..

I just finished a restoration on a '71 Challenger R/T and very fresh with the mirror installation. It can be a bear, but once you get it started, it'll tighten up.....

Re: shield for vapor lines. Look for pics from Challenger 1. He's got some good ones of the wheel well area. There should be another shield for the rubber lines that go through the frame between the tank and vapor separator.

edit: Here's one
Here's another

See attached/annotated photos: I recently just did my parking brake mechanism. The small spring only goes in and attaches one way. It's a tight and slightly difficult fit getting it clipped on where it needs to go. Hold the smaller curled end of the spring with a needle nose pliers, feed it in through the topside, and hook the larger curled end onto the bottom of the latch. Then pull up, twist and hook the smaller end onto the housing. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for the info I'll be back under there today!

Does anyone know a supplier for the back of the mirror adjuster?

re the spring for the Park Brake - the bloody thing nearly took my eye out yesterday and went flying off somewhere in the shed - do you think we can find the F*#?ing thing now? Spent about 2 hours tearing the place apart and then decided to just order another one from Megaparts.

Will try and get the splash shield on today.

Again thanks for your help! Really Appreciated!

Sorry, the other thing was the spring for the slapstick shifter - it s about 3" across and sits at the top of the mechanism under the console.

I'll post a photo a bit later!

Again thanks for everyone's help!!!

Hi All,

Just an update - found the spring for the park brake - done
Spring for shifter - done
Splash shield - done
Just waiting for a response from PG classic regards the replacement of the mounting plate for the Bezel - hopefully they will send us that for nothing as it was missing out of the kit. if not we'll have to pay for a new one (about $2.10) which shouldn't break the bank!

Thanks again to those who replied. We are getting there slowly with this beast!

Hi All,

Just need a bit more help this time installing the back seat.

Do the tangs on the bottom of the top half of back seat slot into the brackets welded to the body or are they screwed in? Having a bit of strife at the moment.

If someone has a photo that would be really appreciated!!

Thanks

Shannon

Here is the hardware to install a '70 remote mirror

The thin, square, spring steel plate holds the mirror adjuster to the back of the door panel

The zinc plated bracket bolts inside the door -- the cable runs through the large hole on the end and is kept out of the way of the window glass

Thanks mate,

we have the mirror sorted now.

I'm after some advice on the back seat (top half) the one we have is quite hard to get in place and we're looking for some guidance as to the how the bottom of it is affixed to the body.

That is, do the tangs on the bottom slide behind the brackets in the floor (they seem to fit but the top of the seat we have doesn't want to line up), or are they screwed to the fittings that appear to be for that purpose? If so what is the attachment screw/nut or what? If it's the latter method I reckon it would need a reasonably big washer.

Thanks again

SF

Hi,

I just to clarify the bracketry we're querying is the rectangular ones on the vertical part of the floor pan, does the top of the back seat slide in behind these or is it attached from the front?

Thanks!

SF

On my 70 challenger, the seat just lays against the front of the attached brackets and has a screw with a large washer that goes through the part of the seat back that hangs down and into the bracket.
