I have a 64 Dodge that I want to start 275 racing. Currently a 583 B1mc motor but the rules are SB only for boost. What is the best heads and block to use for a boost combo? What parts are most available on the market.

I have never built a SBM. I have always had BBM. I am looking to see if it makes sense to switch.

I would say R3 block 48* siamese cyl with a W-8 head..
the W-9 would be the next head only because the W-8
is so much beefier... the W-9 has a great flowing exhaust
port for a turbo... both heads and the R3 block have
the extra head bolts for better clamping force
EDIT
I'm selling my car and engine now but if it goes as
a roller I'll be selling the engine on its own..
its a R3 block 48* siamese with a billet crank 3.79",
fully ported W-9 heads and TD rockers, all good stuff..
PM me if interested (its in the for sale section)

If its a turbo your not gonna need that much ci i would go with w7 15* heads, the deck is super thick 3/4 " so its not gonna lift & there an 18 bolt head.Short deck r3 or same thing mopar restoration block.I think with the w7 you'll get 375cfm and good exh #'s also.
I know someone with 3 sets of w7 heads and brand new blocks,i saw 2 blocks in the garage recently.

I'd say Gen 3 hemi is actually the best flowing head for small Cid right now. Ported 6.4l head will go over 400cfm for sure.

How much power? Stock 5.7 block is good for at least 1200hp.

I agree but your going to lift the heads with too much boost. Now I don't know if this is due to the material the head is made of, amount of bolt retaining the head, quality of fasteners or all the above. But THITEK has a G3 head that is physically beefier.

I'm thinking Procharger or 1071Roots. I will need to run 4.50s in the 1/8 at 3200lbs around here.

suspension or are you stuck with leafs

4.50's 3200lbs= 1900hp and an outstanding suspension.I know this to be true my good friend did that last yr in x275.BB nos car

I think a 400ci Pro charged BES piece would get you 1500 or so.I'd be lying if i knew who could build a sb mopar that stout.

Can run ladder bars but some ladder bars have an adjustable top bar like a 4 link but it connects to the lower bar in front.

I know a local guy makes 1800 HP with a SBC and runs 4.50- 4.60s. I think I may be out gunned with a mopar. I think there is a guy in TX with a new Challenger with turbo w8 that may be in the hunt but I think it would be cool to do it with old metal mopar (64 B-body).

I agree it would be cool to see a mopar doin it.My friend Petey sb has the record for sb Mph in x275..car is 2750lb and makes right around 975hp MOTOR with sb2 heads.

Best of luck bud,i personaly would love to see this done with a mopar. The car in TX is Marty and he'll be the first to tell ya its a HUGE amnt of coin to do what he's done with a p5 sb hemi head.

Good luck man!

I don't think John Sears allows a 10* head in x275. I could be wrong and if it is allowed it would have to weigh a ton in penalties.

Around here the most competitive X275 cars are BB on N20. That's just what I've seen here.

All the sb ford stuff is only 4 bolts per cylinder and they can run big boost in those. Not sure why a hemi couldn't do the same thing?

I'm not sure if the open deck r5 block will take a ton of boost. Maybe with darton sleeves it would work?

Or if you could get an xr block you could use a p7 head?

The duster from Texas (marty) doesn't have w8 heads. Now it's got billet p5 heads.

I don't see any thing about SB heads being limited on the X275 rules.

I have a legal 583 B1MC motor that make 1149HP plus NOS but I don't think it will hang with brand X.

What do you think this motor will do set up for boost. New piston and cam with a Procharger or turbo?
