I need to buy new slicks for the upcoming season.
I run 10.8's @ 126 mph. Caltracs, mono springs. Weight is 3800 lbs. tire size is 28/9/15
What brand? M/ T or Hoosier. Drag slicks or drag radials?

What is the car used for strip only or ? is it a auto or stick? do you race at multiple tracks and is it a bracket car or class car

Strip only, 727, bracket car, and race at 1 track only.
I will run a small shot of spray to run low 10's
A drag radial is quicker/faster than a bias ply slick but on a good track... a bias ply slick is more forgiving on a marginal track SO how is your track on a regular basis... if its good on a regular basis I would look at the drag radial... the Hoosier use to be real good but I dont know today but I still think it is

Track has traction about 70% of the time.
Is there a difference in 60' between slicks and drag radials?
I'm not sure on this.... being that I'm a bracket racer I am willing to sacrifice a little ET so I can hook all of the time thats why I run a bias ply..... I'm sure there will be others to chime in as to what they think

At Test&Tune at my track last year I carried my 315/60 M/T Drag Radials and my 29.5/10.5W's and ran them both and I ran a little over a tenth quicker with the drag radials. It hooked with both sets of tires. I only run 1/8 mile and my D-50 mostly runs low 6.30's at 2950 lbs.I do not think I will buy slicks again.
1.33 60 ft,6.21 at 110.59 in the 1/8, pump gas small block,2950lbs,drag radials,mufflers and driven to track ...

Myself I like the radial slicks. I use the Hoosier 30 x 9 radial slicks and even drive on the street on them. The pair I had was on my car for four years so I bought a new set early this year but did not make it to the track until Oct. After it spun on my first pass of 10.81 it then ran 10.76 three passes in a row so it had good consisdent hook. I have had pretty good luck hooking on the radial slicks and they handle much better at the top end for me then the bias slicks since I have a street radial tire up front. No wandering in the traps with the radials up front and radial slicks. I guess you gotta use what you like and what works best for you but I am happy on the radial slicks. Ron

I have Phoenix radial slicks on the coronet, 32x13.6x15. Hook good on a well prepped track. Fontana when it was open, Bakersfield, Vegas. Irwindale, I'm lucky to get them to hook one out of four times, and no way if the sun is on the track. Was planning on going back to QTP's, but maybe not now that Fontana is coming back.

would this be the same for my heavy car? your 800 lbs lighter!
I will ask.... do you really care if your just a few thousandths slower running a bias that is known to be more forgiving even on a marginal track... you already said that the track hooks 70% of the time.. to me there isnt any choice and thats to run the bias tire... if your a true bracket racer, your out there for the money... and in that you cant afford to have the slip one time... one time and you go home with a empty pocket.... JMO .... I made 8 passes in a day and didnt have more than .007 difference for the whole day and the 60' was 1.20 all day long.... if I wanted to chase ET then sure I would give them a shot... but I dont chase ET

The 10-15 passes I get in a season of racing, it's never been about money!! I don't chase et's either.
I looked at the prices of drag radials and they are not cheap. $230 a tire compared to $180 for slicks.
I personally like M/T's,

I am not sure about the weight difference, I really do not see what the difference would be. At my local track I run within a couple hundreds all night at T&T and when I bracket race. My problem is pulling the wheels straight up out of the lights on the hit then I cut a .490 something redlight.

I understand and agree with the consitency thing with Bias Ply slicks; but if its a street / strip car: No brainer as far as I'm concerned.... RADIALS. Having the car wander around on the street with Bias ply tires is not something that interests me. And I've done a few passes with Bias Slicks, and radials up front.... That was flat out scary at the top, NO THANKS! Now, I'll admit I have the luxury of both tracks I get to are always very well prepped, but still I don't think there's anything that would cause me to go to bias ply tires for a street car.

If your car drove like that on the big end you had to low PSI in rear tires. The rear and front tires have no idea which one is on either end. That is just plain and simple BS.

I'm not the only one that has experienced ill handling with a mix of Radials up front and Bias plys out back. Radials and Bias Plys will track differently, which can create problems. No sir, it wasn't just because I had the pressure wrong, and No Sir, it is not BS. What I will admit to, is that I looked back at the O.P., and realize that I was wrong about the street driving. I see now that it is a 100% strip car. In that case, I would go Bias-Plys. But, I would still NOT mix them.
