What manual valve body do you use when you want to maintain the original shift pattern P R N D 2 1. Forward or reverse manual valve body???

The trans experts can explain it better, but from what I've been told you don't get the higher fluid pressure with a forward pattern manual valve body.
You only get (higher pressure) that with a reverse pattern manual one.

If that's the case, what the point of installing a fwd pattern manual over one that simply has a good shift kit in it?
You can still manually control them.

With a full manual you can do away with the kickdown linkage.

Why would you want a forward pattern on a manual valve body
You are then shifting twords reverse. The older stock type shifters don't have a good revers lockout to keep you from slamming into reverse.

If you're got the factory slap-stick shifter I don't think that's an issue if you're running a fwd pattern valve body.
Other factory shifters I could see that possibly being an issue if they're not adjusted properly.

As it was explained to me the reverse pattern manual was the best choice because of line pressure being higher than a fwd pattern valve body.

There is a reverse pattern plate that you can buy for your slap stick.

Is this for a street/strip car or race only?

I run a Turbo-Action forward pattern manual VB in my Street / Strip Satellite with a B&M Quicksilver shifter. Works like a charm!

Give this one a thought.....

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/tac-17676/overview/

It is really the best of both worlds.

My wifes 72 charger has a factory slap stik. The previous owner told me he used a FWD patern manual VB with it and it worked great. When we first got the car, all I had was aa RMVB so that's hwat wwe used. I have to admit it was a terrible combination for them. (dad and wife split driving duties)

Sometimes they would short shift the 1-2 or miss 2nd all together and hit third.

I even bought the Shift R Gate thing that would make the slap stik work the same in both directions. Turns out, it doesn;t do that. What I gathered was it "slipped: the gate between 1 and 2 and then you would need to hit the button for 3.

I also wasn;t all that keen on hacking up the factory shifter so I never did install it to verfy my concerns.

I instead bought the Atuo/Mn FWD valve body and gave that a shot. I was concerned that it would not give the same neck snapping shifts that the RMVB was capable of but I was proven wrong quickly. Not only does will it shift just as firm and quick as my RMVB it's fwd pattern works great witht the slap stik and once the race is over, they can leave it in D and it reverts back to a normal atuo on the return rd and back through the pits.

Not only can I say we didn;t lose any ET with the VB swap, we actaully probably gained some as the FWD allowed them to use the shifter as t was designed and really hammer the shifts.

I've had two different transmission guys tell me that.
When I was first having my trans built I was going to use a fwd pattern manual John Cope recommended using the reverse pattern one because of the higher line pressure.
Dan Smith (qwkmopardan) told me the same thing.

They explained the why there was a difference, but rather than me trying to explain it I was hoping an expert would chime in and do that.

One other small advantage to the VB I mentioned is it still retains the LBA in first gear so risk of damaging the sprag is eliminated.
