I have an 07 2500 5.9. Been real cold lately (in the teens) and have noticed that the pre heater seems to cyle more than normal for the conditions outside. When I start in the morning it will cyle as many as 15 times. In past winters it's never done this. Anyone else experience this situation?

I'm not familiar with 07s, but my 01 did that until I cleaned the grounds, battery and all connections including to the grid heater. In fact it now starts much easier than before.

My 04 was having issues before I changed the batteries and cleaned all the grounds.

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.

It's been -12C* to 0*C lately.....my pre-heaters cylcle for about 3 minutes on cold start. They will also come on when doing a restart after driving for 15 minutes, although they might only cycle 3 or 4 times. This is when the temp guage shows about 1/3 on the scale, so the block is not cold. Must be the temp of the outside air.
I don't think anything is wrong....you are just noticing it more closely.
Mine is an 07 5.9 cummins.

You are most likely dead on. It's been as low as -25 with the WCF. My battery maintenance is up to include the connections. I put some cardboard in front of the radiator which helps with getting the motor up to temp. It takes about an hour of continuous driving to reach a constant 195. Probably just me being a little over cautious.

Mine will cycle for a while when it's really cold, but it did it far more often before I cleaned the connections is the reason I mentioned. but, at -25 below, I can see why it does it.

Dudes, wind chill factor is for human beings. A 10 degree wind won't cool below 10 degrees no matter what you do.
Now to the human body, a 10 degree temperature with a 10mph wind will cool the human body the same amount as a lower temp in still air. THAT lower temp is the wind chill temperature. But even at -40 wind chill temp, and if you stood still until you turned into a block of ice, you would be no lower in temp than the actual temperature you measure with a thermometer.

Don't be confusing us with the facts. This is Moparts, we don't allow facts to disrupt what we collectively think.
If the windchill says its -40, and it feels like -40 when your standing outside, then it must be -40. Gene
