If you have them, and your goal is 400 hp thru manifolds, then use them. You can't use a flat top to get good quench, or a compression ratio that will be pump fuel friendly and idle smooth. If you were looking for more power, ther are things to do to combat that, but it's not worth doing for your goals. The best two options are to run a KB hyper quench dome, or a flat top with a 452/906 style open chamber head... Or, spring for a dished forged piston. I'd just build it for the low compression and enjoy it.

Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

Even with a closed chamber head your quench is going to be no better than .080. Optimum is around .030- .040. If it were my engine I'd sell those slugs and get higher deck ones. Maybe good with a turbocharger.

How about a set of aftermarket Hemi length rods?

That would work once you get the pin sized sorted out , but then you run into another issue , potential piston to valve clearance since there is no valve relief .

Pistons would be the cheaper route , or he can just ignore the ramblings and build what he has ????

Those pistons will more or less give you a factory stock compression ht. for that engine. The engine will need a balance as that piston is approx. 30gr. heavier than oem. IMHO this is the way to go for a nom. 67 R/T.

Mopar Muscle did a Resto 440 Build-up, (march/april 2001) and used the 2266 pistons on a stock 69-HP rebuild. They decked the block (.020) to compensate for the thicker Felpro Blue gaskets. Piston-in-the-whole was .069.

They got 357HP with stock cam, 906 heads, avs carb, etc.

By the time they added headers, changed out carb and intake Holley's, they got 420 hp still with the stock cam.

464HP with a 274H cam, roller rockers, and good push rods.

I don't think the 2266 pistons are going to hurt you any.
