70runner, that's nice! I think I'll try making my own. I bought a welder years ago and have yet to use it. I'll make this my first welding project. If it doesn't work I'll use wood. I can get plenty of good, used pieces of wood for free. Thanks.
Makes a great welding project. Mine is actually an adaptation of a commercial product I was able to take measurements on. Here it is in final checkout before 440 break-in run.

As said they are pricey. I'd make one with square tubing & bolt it together & some of it will need to be welded & truck it to a welder or pay him to come to you if he has a portable welder. You'll still come out way ahead plus the personal satisfaction of having done it yourself

not much to building one, you really just need a way to hold a rad in front of an engine and keep the engine from falling over. i've got maybe $40 in mine and thats just the mig gas and welding wire. just used it yesterday for a successful break in [image] [/image]

Cheap ole furniture moving dollies work great for engine carts. may have to notch out the center board for pan clearance though. I have had many 440's on mine.

since the starter bolts to the bell you have to have a bell and flywheel or an automatic trans and torque converter to start the engine.
Thanks. I knew it was a dumb question, I really didn't think it through.

I don't like the idea of running a motor up on a stand. All the stands I have seen are kind of high off the ground. Also with the motor mounted from the back How does the trans attach, so it can run? I always wanted to build a stand onto a pick up frame, using the front end and put a hitch on it. That way I could work on motors, and also sell motors that can be seen and heard running. Then deliver them as well.
I have mechanical Aptitude. I can screw up anything.
