What are the differences in a 70 & 71 hood? My 71 wears a hood with the dodge script on it. Can't say it wasn't changed Long time ago, so. I was going to order trim for the front of the hood but they are year specific. Need figure out which one to order. Thanks

My hood appears to have the lip on the bottom with the screw holes for the moulding. Maybe mine is one of the left overs. Thanks
BTW, going to pick up the AAR from the resto shop in a few days, first time back on the road in 31 years or so.

The sure give away would be the latch on the hood. The 1970 latch is unique to this hood. It does not work with other years because of the plate that was added on 1971 and up were the grille bolts on. Not sure what they call this piece it is a header panel for the grille it blocks off the latch position if you use a 1970 Challenger Hood on a 1971 and up Challenger.

It does Have the holes on the bottom of the hood lip and also the pull latch. So must be one of the odd ball 71 hoods with the DODGE lettering. Thanks

Does anyone know what trim fits an AMD R/T hood? Looks like mine bolts through the front. I used the old trim off my original 1971 flat hood but my car was a very early build. Perhaps a left over 70 hood??? with trim that bolted through the front??

Well contrary to your advice it looks like I purchased the incorrect hood moulding for my 71 challenger. It is a 318 car, so I assume someone added the bulge hood at a later time. I haven't taken the moulding out of the package so not sure if I will use it, if it will fit. Will the clips still fit in the moulding and hold it to the hood? Are they the same moulding just 70 has the lip with no holes? My hood has the holes in the front of the hood. Is the crack in the center of the hood typical? Also I have a picture of the hood release on but not sure what holds the pull handle to the hood. Any pictures ? What am I missing? Thanks

If the hood came with the latch rod bracket , how is it supposed to be mounted? I have the angle bracket , just nothing to mount it to.

Sure looks like your hood is a 1970 Hood. You have no under side boss to bolt the bracket that holds the puller to the hood. Also the trim bolts to the front of the hood,so that is a 70 only thing I believe. The problem you will have is the puller on the latch. The piece that hoods the grill on a 71 gets in the way of a real 1970 hood latch and that is why they came up with this extended version on 71 and up hoods. Your latch is a 1971 and up latch.

I agree with hemicar1971 and your hood is from a 1970. Looking at the piture you provided, there is no provision for the safety latch release / pull rod. You can not use the correct safety release that came with this 1970-style hood since the handle will interfer with the upper grill / header panel.
Your choices are: 1. Weld the angle bracket on to your hood. 2. Fabricate a bracket to allow the use of what you currently have. 3. Don't use a safety latch and just rely on the hood release or run another cable or chain around the latch if you are worried about the hood accidently coming unlatched. 4. Leave it as-is and continue using the zip ties.
I had the same issue and didn't realize that my hood was a 1970 until after I painted the car. Had I known earlier, I would have welded on the small angle bracket that you indicate you have and secures the release pull rod to the hood. I ended up fabricating a bracket to secure and support the release pull rod. Attched is the bracket I fabricated which solved the same issue you are dealing with.
No comment on the trim molding.
