looking to put some calls in to the resident moparts cam doctors. I have a 5.9 Magnum motor, bone stock bottom end (around 9.0 compression with stock heads and stock head gasket) I'm putting some aluminum eddy heads on it that flow around 230-240 as cast. with 1008 head gaskets, I should be around 9.2 compression. I don't want to mill the heads now incase I end up building a 408 later and want a little more chamber volume to keep compression reasonable.
stick shift viper spec T-56 trans with a .5:1 OD 6th gear. rear axle is 4.56 gears and tires are 27" tall.
Trying to find a cam that gives me great power till around 6,000 rpm, makes the most of the flow available from the heads, yet still gives good street manners at around 2,000 rpm for my part throttle cruise.
anyone here have any ideas? Who would be good to call to discuss cam specs?

70cuda383, I don't think the cam will be your first issue , if you have less than 365 cubic inches [Non boosted] , you will most likely not benefit from the large port heads. in fact , you will most likely lose some. now when you add the stroker , absolutely. I think you -may- gain from a cam that was designed for mid range hi- velocity if you do use those heads but, a set with 195 runners would be better for the cid. that you now have..
um...how many small block magnum motors have you built?
I've seen time and time again where "big" flowing heads have responded VERY well on these EFI magnum motors, so thanks for your
--Edelbrock RPM heads are stock magnum based heads, not some exotic W-x head with large ports. they are a stock replacement head that flow 30-40 cfm better than stock. Remember, a stock production Magnum head found on EVERY 5.2 and 5.9 Magnum flows around 200 CFM as cast and can easily support 400+ crank hp. (the 380 crate motor when dyno tested by Mopar Muscle made 408 hp with stock heads, stock pistons, stock rods, and stock crank.)

all I did was mis read the post.. flow vs runner volume... a large runner volume is relative to CID. my mistake.. and I only built 1 engine of any kind ever ... I put it in my little tykes truck!

Ah ok Fair enough! Yea, these Edelbrock aluminum heads are a popular mod on the magnum motors, and quite a few guys picked up .5 seconds or better ET by simply swapping from stock heads to either R/T Magnum iron heads, ported EQ or RHS heads, or the edelbrock aluminum RPM heads.

IMO, when it comes to Mopar small block cam people, Hughes engines is one of the best sources around.
