SB hyd race cam. I accidentally mixed up the order of (2) of the lifters . Should I go ahead & reinstall everything (50-50 chance) or rebreak it in with 2 new lifters? Thank you for your time.

yep. were they a quality lifter in the first place? when you look down the bore is there anything that might cause concern? this is probably a case of over-thinking/stressing since they have been together and matched to the cam since new.

For the cost of what, $10.00 a lifter, you are going to take a chance on wiping the cam out? You can't be serious.

Not my area of expertise, but I have heard of guys swapping lifters around despite strong suggestions against it.
Dwayne Porter is regarded as a G U R U with Mopar stuff and when I asked him about this very thing several months ago, he was on the fence about it. I asked him about when an engine was broken in then a cam change was considered, are new lifters mandatory. He said that he had reused lifters on a different cam with no bad results. He didn't suggest it outright but said that he had done it before.
Maybe a teardown for an engine builder isn't that big of a deal, but to a regular guy that builds maybe one engine every 3 years, it is a different story.
After 3 cam failures in 2 engines in the last 7 years, I tend to be cautious. Personally, I'd put in new lifters.

More than likely even if mixed up it will be alright just as long as all lifters are in good shape.

I guess a couple new one's would be less risky? But I'm not so sure on that?

I use some 4X4" blocks of wood to keep lifters in.

Push rods for a BAE hemi.

Then I have some custom made. Sometimes I have had more than one motor apart at a time, got to be organized. These are too small for BAE hemi parts.

After 6pakbee implying that I might be an idiot on this deal I am rather embarrassed to admit that I just realized that I have 2 new extra lifters on hand for another new cam/lifter set that I bought awhile back as I thought I lost 2 then I found them after I bought the 2 new ones . Thanks guys

Robert, I in no way was trying to imply you were an idiot. I have always found your posts very useful and informative. I was more surprised (shocked?)than anything else by the question. Glad you found two new lifters!

BTW, it doesn't matter which of the two empty lifter bores the new lifters go in.

Hey bro that was a bit harsh of me & I humbly apologise. What happened was I pulled the 2 lifters out of cyl #1 thinking that they were 2 junk ones that I had locked solid & had in there for degreeing purposes forgetting that the day before I had put the 2 good ones back in there. As soon as I tossed em on the towel on the bench & they rolled together I realized what I had done

I think, and this is just guess work, that the success rate of reusing used lifters in other bores depends a lot on valve spring pressures. A mild cam probably will work, a serious cam, probably not going to last.
