I'm thinking they should be 8 3/4 but my 70 convertible has a 8.25 rear? It appears to be original. Is this correct?

Most have the 8.75. /6 and maybe a few 318 cars had the 7.25. Maybe a few /6 cars had the 8.75. The 8.25 was not made in the E-body specs. No 8.25 E's.

That chart is not completely accurate. 7.25 was use in E-body 8.25 used 69 and up B. Most 71 B's had them 8.75 was used through 74 in trucks and B-body and E. 9.25 was never used in a 72 B and early 73. Showed up in trucks in 75

Thanks Mark I provided the pic more as a visual aid as most people get confused when they see the 7 1/4 axle....the 8 3/4 is an easy ID, but it's funny when some think the 7 1/4 is a DANA 60

Does kinda look like a little baby Dana.
Not to hijack the thread but....
Is there a trick to getting the plug out of the 7 1/4 to check the level and to change the gear oil? I haven't had much success and I'm guessing the lube is original to the car.
Also, would a 7 1/4 have a ratio tag???
