Thanks for looking, still some coming up! It seems that The Gilmore Museum is adding buildings at a steady pace. It is a huge complex already, happy to see a car museum doing well!

Woodward is great but I wish all the minivans etc would have the decency to stay away. The daily drivers are really the problem, they clog the traffic especially on Saturday. But I love Woodward, will be there every year if I can afford it.

Thanks for the pictures (I haven't responded until now but I am looking at them all!)

So you were there? Sorry, I had no idea as I didn't see the famous Hemi killin' Duster. Glad you liked the photos, quite a few Detroit ones coming up still...

Evade???

Not quite...

Coming over the bridge from Belle Isle we see one of the many old industrial buildings that have ben converted to lofts. Detroit has so many cool old industrial buildings just sitting empty, even the old Chrysler dealer on Cass...and they are cheap. But how to afford the property taxes not to mention deal with the security issues...

The Eastside Historic Cemetery District consists of three separate cemeteries which all date back to the mid 19th century. We took a drive through Elmwood, such a beautiful and peaceful place. I'll post a video link later.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastside_Historic_Cemetery_District

Mount Elliott front gate;

Entering Elmwood Cemetery;

A major part of the riverfront has been completely redone recently, Windsor in the background;

Looking towards downtown and the Renaissance Center;

The Eastern Market seems to be doing well, a lot of small businesses opening up in the neighborhood.

This handsome brick building is home to the Detroit Mercantile Company which specializes in Made in Detroit, Michigan and USA goods. A lot of vintage stuff everywhere too and it is all for sale. Finally a place that has Made in USA t-shirts...bought a pocket Constitution and a few other things as well;

After grabbing a bite downtown we wanted to check out some of the skyscrapers while there;

One of the most impressive is the Art Deco Guardian Building, also called Cathedral of Finance.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guardian_Building

The phone rang and Steve, who wanted to see Detroit also but only had one hour to do it, joined us with Dave. Well, actually, we joined them as the Jeep would have been a bit small. But that was fine, I got to ride in slightly tweaked Charger R/T that sounded good. Since time was in short supply we headed towards the New Center area to check out the old GM HQ and the Fisher Building.

Shinola makes watches and bikes right in Detroit. Check them out!

OK, let's hurry up fellas!

Again one thing I hadn't noticed earlier. Across the street from the Fisher Building are the Albert Kahn offices! Albert Kahn seems to have designed half of the industrial buildings and many others in Detroit;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Kahn_(architect)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Center_Building

The Kahn Building, Fisher Building and Cadillac Place (former GM HQ) are connected by underground walkways.

Next the old General Motors Headquarters;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_Place

Just to give an idea what kind of history a few blocks in Detroit can have;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Amsterdam_Historic_District

I sure wish that the Cass Motor Sales, old Chrysler dealer, building will have some automotive use in the future. What a dream pad for someone with deep pockets...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cass_Motor_Sales

From the back;

Back in downtown we hop in the Jeep and continue west,

Any of you Detroit folks know what this was back in the day?

Next stop was pretty exciting as I thought that the old DeSoto/Imperial plant on Warren had been demolished. That was false news, the McGraw Glass plant had been on the same site but the actual car plant is still there. In this very building Chrysler also manufactured parts for the B26:s, B29:s and the Curtiss Helldivers;

http://www.allpar.com/corporate/factories/desoto-warren.html

I wanted to break in. I am sure that somewhere in that huge structure is still something cool from the Chrysler days;

The old Highland Park main gate...in a few years nothing will be left of the old Chrysler HQ as the site is almost fully developed. I wish someone would rescue that dyno floor...

The Ford Highland Park complex...

It was getting dark and we had barely time to see the beautiful houses in the Boston-Edison district;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston-Edison_Historic_District

James Couzens house, a major shareholder of Ford Motor Company and later a US Senator and also the Mayor of Detroit;

Thanks again for the fantastic tour Kris! I should have some video footage of these too, will post links later...

Don't let the Can you spot dustergirl340 thread get you down Hans. I for one am thoroughly enjoying seeing your pics.

Please, PLEASE don't take this as a complaint, maybe links to an album or blog would have been better (easier)? I've got a good internet connection, and it still takes awhile for all the pics to download. I can imagine members like DocFlappergas that are using dial up are still waiting for page one to load.

OK, back to the pics.

Yes, please keep posting! There are those of us that appreciate it very much. Like GetAwayDriver said, you took pictures of everything I would have, it's almost uncanny.

Hey John, glad you like the pics. No worries about me getting discouraged. I just find some things surprising as this is a site dedicated to Chrysler cars. I also know that there aren't that many people who'd do this stuff like I do. I mean I'm obsessed with it (in a good way lol). A good friend from New Zealand said to me once that "I instantly knew that you are one of us, there are not many like us in this world. You have that look in your eyes when you talk about this stuff". Being in the "hobby" for over 30 years I kinda knew what he was talking about but it has really sunken in more deeply as years have passed. I don't know many people who'd put up with car stuff for five straight weeks. I just can't get enough of it.

Interesting point regarding the photos. I have a mini laptop and it starts to get slow when all the photos load, that is why I have tried to link fewer photos per post. Comments are helpful as they help to "turn the page". But me doing this the hard way is because I know that many people are too lazy to keep clicking on thumbnails in an album. The photos might take awhile to load but I enjoy being able to look at them without any effort. Links are also easy to post this way for those who want to go more in depth about stuff. I try to insert a lot of links because even if one is interested very few people would go through the trouble of googling stuff for more info.

Glad for the input, didn't think of it the way you said. I guess the good DrFlIpPeRgLaSs has to upgrade the dial-up

Let's head to the Viper plant soon...

LOL, I'm sure there's a lot of folks wondering what the heck this guy's doing. He flies in from the other side of the world and takes pics of vans, c-bodys, and 81 New Yorker's.

Congrats for your good taste

LOL, yeah, sometimes I get a little tired of the "popular" Mopars, they all kinda start looking the same (which is one reason we're building a '65 Dart. NO love for them. )

Heck, I drove through Detroit last summer and saw a mint K-car and got excited.

Don't say that about '65 Darts. My first car was a 65 Dart and I still have it. Fours doors too and the mighty 170 cid Slant. Used to have chromed Clifford headers, totally killed low end torque (what torque?). Then I got crazy with the Ed Hamburger catalog (around 1984)and wanted a 360, auto and a 8 3/4" SG. Darn car is still in pieces though. And one of the most obsessed restorations in the world is done on a 1965 Dart Charger in Sweden. I think Ulf will bring it to the US next year;
