This 1963 Pontiac Catalina was stunning in black...to me the automotive years between 1957-64 were the best. The big three had some great designs and really powerful engine options. Plastic hadn't made it's appearance on a large scale either...

Woodward has it all;

Nothing better than American vehicles parked in the driveway in Detroit. Kris came for some late night carb workout and we got to use Kurt's cozy and well equipped garage for that. Thanks again guys!

Finally got my own wheels on Woodward!

Wednesday evening and the Moparts meet at the Donut Cutter;

I feel small, I'm surrounded by the Detroit mob...

Although the concept is familiar and all the promotional discs never fail to impress me. They look totally surreal.

Back on the road, I am so worried about missing cool stuff that I'd like to be in a dozen places at once...

This might be a bit of a boring video but for those who have never been at Woodward and don't realize how wide spread this event is it might give a clue. In this 9 part video I drive from 13 Mile Road (yes, there are activities several miles south from there too) all the way to Pontiac and then back to Bloomfield Hills staying on Woodward the whole time. Even if the Friday was a bit slow there were still thousands of old cars everywhere.

I evaded ALL Donut Cutter pictures! Yes!
I see a purple Jerry in a few though.

Thanks for the pictures (I haven't responded until now but I am looking at them all!)

So you were there? Sorry, I had no idea as I didn't see the famous Hemi killin' Duster. Glad you liked the photos, quite a few Detroit ones coming up still...

I drove my not-so-famous non-Hemi killin' Dart, so I was a bit incognito. Plus I think I came later that evening (not sure how long you stayed.)

Hans this is the best Moparts thread since... Uh, the last time you came to Detroit! You pretty much photographed everything I would have at every stop. Carry on...

Much obliged Sir! I'm just trying to do something useful while waiting for your book...

Next year there will be even more Detroit, I promise! But here's a small tour for those who think that Detroit is just ruins and misery like the media portrays. Just wait a moment...

Thanks Dave and I hear you, I sure hope that the Charger body will one day be back in its former glory! Maybe even as a complete race car.

Next up is a little sight seeing of Detroit. I am lucky to know Kris who is really, really knowledgeable about Detroit architecture, past and current ongoings as well as interesting Mopars. So, we'll hop in the Wrangler for a quick (considering how much there is to see) tour. I've always liked the looks of the Wrangler but have had a bit of a hard time with the interior and the dash in particular. With the new one I am really impressed though, the Jeep folks have done a beautiful job on it and the 300 horse V6 and the 6-speed manual move it with ease. These are starting around $23K which is quite a good deal in my eyes. Speaking of American cars in Europe the cheapest Wrangler in Sweden is the Sahara at $45K and in Finland the Sport diesel (yuk) at $75K. No gas engines in Finland as they'd probably be even more expensive due to the mean greenies insane taxes. A great little vehicle it is but luxury for us Europeans.

I had been taking some video footage of the beautiful eastern suburb of Grosse Pointe and didn't take still photos before we got to Belle Isle. Belle Isle is quite a sight to see, a really beautiful place and the weather treated us well too. Here's some video footage driving along the shoreline, disregard my geeky voice lol

A view towards downtown Detroit and the GM headquarters;

Canada is to the left and the Ambassador Bridge connects Detroit to Windsor. Uh oh, that place would have a lot of interesting stuff too...

The Detroit Yacht Club is the largest in the US and very rich in history considering that such names as Gar Wood had a presence here in the 1920:s

The Detroit Boat Club is another fantastic structure on Belle Isle, seen here from the elegant MacArthur Bridge which connects Belle Isle to Detroit;
