Hi-

I don't have access to a parts manual for a '77 Dodge Diplomat- could someone tell me what the part number is for the round gasket for the disc brake backing plate? It goes between the backing plate and the spindle itself. I'm getting ready to do a disk brake conversion on my '69 Charger and I was cleaning up a set of junk yard spindles that I got to use when I found that the gaskets are pretty shot...

Thanks!
David

I think that you mean "splash shields", right? Disc brakes had no backing plates.
I never use those anyway. They retain heat and will make a terrible screeching noise if a rock gets between them and the rotor. Rick Ehrenberg suggests to toss them. Since your car isn't an attempt at a correct restoration, why keep them?

Use the splash shields.
You can make your own gasket from thin sheet closed cell foam.
If not, I think RestoRick has the gaskets. DMT may have them too, but they dont show on his website.

Right, I had meant splash shields.

Yea I was thinking of just getting that thin foam material from the local part store and just cut them out. I managed to salvage one of them in good enough shape that I can use it as a template if I just 'fill in the blanks'.

But if I can't find the foam sheeting then I'll check out the websites and see if I can't get them that way.

Thanks!
David

If you want to look for an original....

Looks like you need #14, P/N 2944704.

I would imagine if Jim (71TA) does not make them already, he might be able to use the one you have as a template to run them off...might be worth checking with him.
