What's my best way to restore a set of Road Wheels? Get them blasted and then what colors for them? What black is correct for a 70 Challenger. What about the chrome look.

Do not blast the spokes. They are a matte chrome and as far as I know, you can't replicate the finish.

I done a few in the past, for the amount of effort...just order a new set from Wheel Vintiques, one less chore to do in the restoration of your vehicle...then sell the beat originals to the next guy who has to learn the hard way

Chemical dip is the only way to go on these wheels.

It's do-able. I did a set of original '69 road wheels for my RR. New wheels have spokes which are chrome vs. satin chrome which was the original surface. I preferred the original look so I had to try and work with what I had. It was time consuming but it turned out good. I masked all the spokes and satin chrome surround with duct tape and then carefully trimmed it away so that I could get at the remainder of the exposed wheel while in blast cabinet. I took care not to blast directly towards any masking. After blasting, I removed duct tape cleaned them and masked them with a masking kit made for this purpose along with blue painters tape. Again.. tedious. X-acto knife came in handy. Anway, After masking I sprayed the backs first in satin black and then the fronts. After removing masking... a few areas need to be cleaned up but that is easy.

You said "After blasting, I removed duct tape cleaned them and masked them with a masking kit made for this purpose along with blue painters tape"
What do you mean when you say " a masking kit made for this purpose" What was it?

I used Rustoleum Satin Black and sprayed it from my primer gun.
A buddy of mine gave me the masking kit that is seen in some of the pix... that'd be the white tape. They were all precut and worked very nicely. I would venture to say somebody out there still makes this masking kit. Maybe DMT? Perhaps a Ford supplier since they used similar wheels.

This kit would work. It is essentially the same as what I used except it has masking for the circumference - not just the spokes. Less follow up masking with the blue tape.

That looks like a good deal - save a lot of time.
Is the kit good for only 1 wheel?

So $42 for 4 wheels - for the amount of time it would save, I think its well worth it!

The kit has enough for The spokes on five wheels

If you have a Redi-strip or similar outfit near you, that's the best way to go.

The chrome is not affected by the process (though confirm that with your provider), then use the masking kit and paint 'em up!
