There's a fellow who is interested in trading me his 77 Adventurer SE for my 64 Polara project and parts. I have $6500 in my car and parts and have it advertised for what I have in it. His truck is OE paint, 360/auto/AC nearly rust free and nice but has around 100K miles. Interior is not OE but nice and has been freshened with a cloth seat and new dash. The truck went to Germany with the ist owner then to Nevada where it stayed till coming to Ohio. I like it a lot.
Problem is, I have no idea what it's worth. I know LREs are big money when nice but I don't have a feel for what a nice driver is worth. I've found nice original, low mile trucks advertised from $5,000-$8500 depending on options and motor. I just want to make sure it's worth what I have in my car.
Educate me oh wise ones.

In my book it might worth about half of what your asking for your 64.. if that..

I am truckless..

I asked so I want honest answers. So, if I understood right, you're thinking $3000-$3500. I would never have guessed that.

hard to say with only one picture. 3-4K isnt bad, for a really nice truck. maybe he'll throw some cash into the deal? just depends how much you want a truck, i guess. you should have an idea how close you are on the price of the car, based on the interest it's generated for you, if any. if nobody is calling about it, it might be time to realize, you'll never get out of it, what you put into it.

either way, the one lousy pic still shows what looks to be a nice truck

Anyone can set a $ amount anywhere they want. To be fair, we need to see what your project car and parts look like. The real question in not about value, but if the trade is fair or not.
Looks like a nice truck. In some places, it will bring a higher price then it will in other places, but I think $6500 is a stretch, then again, $6500 might be a stretch for your car as well. Something that runs and drives is easier to sell then something that doesn't. Gene

I agree with what you're saying. I have the car listed here in the B body section with a pic link to some of the stuff. My car isn't a driver but it runs and I have some very nice stuff but it is a project. I promised myself I wouldn't sell it at a loss, I'd just do it someday. This guy thinks highly of his truck and it's most likely worth more to him than it is. I just don't want to get upside down in a trade.

While you may have $6500 in you car.. you don't always get out what you put into it, unless it is done, then at times you still don't. So Say $5000 for you car + parts.. An OE paint truck looking like that would be $4000 -$5000 maybe high would be $6000.. (Color kills $6K for me)

I think you guys are in the same ball park.. Maybe not the same inning... Talk it out see what kind of deal can be worked out..

By putting a dollar value to both vehicles, you have removed the single thing that is important to the both of you- the hobby part of it all.

He wants your pile of parts 64, and he's willing to trade his nice truck for it.

You want his nice truck, and he's willing to trade it for your 64 project.

If you both are happy with that (and only that), do the swap! That's what hobbyists do!

If you (or him, or both of you) are concerned about the market value or investment potential, neither of you will be happy with both what you already own, and what you'd swap for.

This is a hobby, not Wall Street. Hobbies cost money, and hobby, by definition, has no financial return at all. If it did, it's a business.

You decide what you want to do. I've done both (D & W trucks and a 64 Fury) and have lost 10's of 1000's of dollars on both. But they sure were fun to do, and as a hobby, I thoroughly enjoyed them!

It is a hobby and I enjoy it. But I've been careful to not get upside down in this hobby. I like drivers, not show cars because I like to enjoy them. I've had the 64 for 8-10 yrs, buying good parts as available and money permitted. I know that the word "project" kills the value, no matter how much good stuff I have. I guess I thought a nearly rust free, original paint truck was worth more. I'll have to think on it more.

I agree with Rod Hall on what the truck is valued at + what the inside looks like to you, most people want original paint and interior trucks, so minus for not stock interior. nice looking truck but hard to tell by one picture.
