im no expert....
BUT i would speculate that the cyl wall cracked....
filled that hole with some water and...then your rod broke
....BAD A$$ STREET CAR.....

You might be on to something there. The wall looks a little thin where it opened up.
Sorry for your bad luck. It definitely looks expensive.

At first I considered that too, but a broken rod at the wrist pin, will beat that area up pretty bad if its still attached to the crank, and it was.

With Jamies last post about no heat, and looking at the piston again, with it being beat out pretty good at the angle the rod would beat on it, is simply the rod broke first for sure IMO at the wrist pin, all else followed.
The good news, IMO is it got shut down fast enough to save the heads. Ive seen mayham spread to a bunch of other cylinders causing alot more damage to the rest of the chambers.

And as far as Big Block's having oiling problems....BS!
