My 70 RR is almost finished. have a 440 engine topped with edelbrock heads and a six pack setup. I want to swap in a hyd roller cam. I want torque to be about 475-500. Any suggestions? Also what roller lifters do you guys recommend?
Here is an article from the Tech Archives (always a good place to look first) This engine is a big block with Edelbrock heads and a Comp hyd roller cam. It should answer most of your questions.

Patrick unless your engine and the engine in the article were on the same dyno , on the same day you really don't know if you are making more power. I don't think Andy was trying to one up you, just giving you some comparative information.
Getting old just means you were smarter than some and luckier than others.

So, is the issue with hydraulic lifters, when run on too aggressive a lobe, they self destruct? The internals get damaged in some way? Is this cause by the lifter, more likely with a roller lobe, bouncing out of control to the pushrod location. So, "bottoming out" the plunger for lack of a better description and damaging the lifter. Could something like a rev kit aid with a hydraulic roller setup? Make sure the lifter is well controlled while allowing the valve spring to better handle the push rod, rocker, valve, etc.? How much does oil pressure affect the life of a hydraulic lifter? Low(er) oil pressure combined with an out of control lifter, bad combo? Just thinking out loud.

Who's making good hyd roller lifters that go 7500 ? Seems like everyone I know, that goes down the hyd roller road has issues with them.
340 Rick buzzes his new gen hemi 7500 every pass with a hy roller...but he modify's them to do so....basically makes a solid out of them

I've used most of the different brands of hydraulic roller lifters on the market and have pretty good success with all of them. I think you need to pay close attention to cleanliness first off. Any debris no matter how small will keep the lifters from working properly. After that a lot depends on the weight of the valve train and the rpm you feel you want to run at. With that being said, spring pressures and spring rates need to be looked at very closely. Not enough spring and you will damage the lifter, too much spring and you'll damage the lifter. too much pre-load and the lifters try to pump up, causing the valves to stay open at higher rpm's. not enough preload and the pushrods will hammer the plungers and destroy the lifters. If you do your homework, or deal with a reputable shop, you have a far better chance of getting it right the first time. As far as the torque number you listed, you should be able to easily hit that number and more if you want to as long as the rest of the combination is in order. Okay, back to the Holiday Inn Express I go now.

The Cranes MUST be good since they cost about $750. Biggest problem I think is just most Mopars have a heavy valvetrain. Whatever you do stay away from Comps HR lifters. Morel has 2 grades of them, find a dealer for them and get the better of the 2. Use 11/32 valves and titanium retainers. There was a guy I read that basically set lash on the Morels by bottoming the plunger out completely then backing off like a 1/4 turn and claimed 7500 rpm on a BB Mopar. Whatever, it would be a potentially expensive experiment.
Mopar to the bone!!!
