I've never supported the engine when pulling a 833 4 speed. Remove the trans mount nut, then Just jack the trans up enough to remove the cross member bolts and cross member, then lower the trans till it stops, then remove the shifter, linkage and 3 of the trans bolts. Get your trans jack in place and remove the last bolt. Now If you have some help it would be nice as the trans does not set well on transmission jacks. The 833 weighs in close to 150 pounds so be carefull. The trans will slide right out , some times very quickly. I don't know why your doing this but there are a few other things you should do while you have the trans out.
it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

I always use about a 6 inch long 2x4 on the support. It spreads the weight on the oil pan.Ive never supported the motor either and been pulling trannys since the 60s.It is a good idea though with old motor mounts.Rocky

Stumpy Im like you I used to lay the trans from the 65 on my chest and put it in and take it out. That was many years ago.Now I have 3 grown sons that I get to help.It takes some time to get them to do it but man is it easy.I always hated the drain plug digging into my chest.Rocky

I did the trans thing on my chest many times when I was young. Didn't even know that a trans jack existed back then.

It's out... Thanks for everyone's help...
Special thanks to Scott Ragsdale who was nice enough to stop by and make sure I didn't drop the thing on my toe...

Yeah no kidding.. but that's another thread...
One thing I did notice was that there were two different sized bolts holding the trans in.. I suspect this isn't by design.. More signs somebody just threw this thing together..
Happy to be cleaning it all up.
Pulled out the throwout bearing so will replace that.. Got some other good tips on what to poke around with while it's out..
