UPS just dropped off two sets of the new Indy 440-EZ's.
i have a set of the std and MW port opening versions here, and tonite i'll be posting some pics and OOTB flow numbers.

my first impression is....they look pretty nice. the castings are pretty smooth, and the intake ports have the pushrod bulge thats pretty prevelant on the SR heads basically gone on these heads.
chambers are pretty much just like the SR heads.
exhaust ports look pretty small compared to the SR's, as well as being in the std location.....it'll be interesting to see how well it flows.
both ends of the heads are machined smooth, and "Indy" logo CNC'd into them.

i have a set of the CNC ported 295cc version on their way, and those should be here in a couple of days.

stay tuned....

I will stay tuned for some interesting numbers.
How did they change the pushrod bulge? If the port is the same width and the pushrod (rockers) are in the same place, the only way would be to thin the wall at that point. But maybe the port is thinning at the pinch, or opening?

left my camera at work....so no pics tonite....but i have the important stuff

the two heads tested are a 440EZ, and a 440EZ-1.
the EZ-1 has the intake port opening CNC'd out to the MW size, and the bowls are cleaned up with some CNC work as well.

i can see with these heads that the emphasis on where the improvments should be focused has shifted from the intake side of the head, to the exhaust side.
the exhaust port is rather small, but does flow pretty well for its size.
with some additional porting i think it will come around pretty well.....but for the higher HP/bigger cube combos, i think a dual pattern cam will be in order.

when i talked with Russ at ICH about these heads he was saying how the intake ports were basically just SR ports.
well.....thats not exactly correct.
its more like.....ported SR ports.
the unported SR short turn is basically a cliff thats slanted towards the center of the bore.
these new heads have a more modern look to them. the floor is much more convex, and the short turn is a big, long radius.
the pushrod bulge has been basically removed completely, and the as cast width is 1.060(on the non-MW version).

anyway.....you guys just wanna see the numbers....so here they are.
tested on a 4.375 bore:

440EZ(std port opening)
lift-----I/E
.100--63.4/57.6
.200-135.5/103.3
.300-201.2/143.3
.400-253.1/176.2
.450-270.7/188.1
.500-286.6/196.2
.550-297.3/201.4
.600-302.7/205.4
.650-306.3/205.4
.700-309.9/204.1

440EZ-1(MW opening, CNC bowls)
lift-----I/E
.100--65.4/55.1
.200-140.9/102.7
.300-209.7/138.1
.400-265.9/178.2
.450-290.0/193.0
.500-308.1/202.7
.550-324.2/211.9
.600-333.1/218.4
.650-340.3/223.7
.700-343.9/227.6

the low lift flow is a little weak on the std EZ, but i think a little tweek of the valve job and a back cut to the valve would perk that up some.

the 440EZ-1 has a killer intake port....rock steady at .700 lift....nice and quiet....good flow.
this is a very nice port for an OOTB head(and puts an OOTB 440-1 port to shame).
this head will be an easy 500ci/700hp piece with some work done on the exhaust side.

Rudy's getting the CNC295 version of these, which i hope to have on hand next week....and will get on the flow bench when they arrive.

on a side note....i have 2 sets of Bulldogs in the shop as well.
one set is the last version prior to them raising the intake ports, and then i have a new set with the raised intake ports.
i'll try and get some numbers on them to compare in the next few days.
the new raised runner version is a direct competitor to this new ICH 440EZ head.

my guess is, it will be pretty much like the BD vs SR thing was when the BD's first came out. the low/mid lift numbers will be better than the ICH heads, but the ICH heads will be better up top(thats my prediction anyway).

anyway.....my overall impression is.....its nice when a new product is like what the advertisements claim them to be.
these are definately going to be a nice step up from the E head for guys wanting to build 500ci combos, and dont want to replace their expensive headers.

Thanks for the report Dwayne Looks like Indy has a winner with these new castings. They should sell a lot of them. What were the chamber/port volumes on the EZ-1's ?

So Dwayne, are these new heads a direct replacement head too? In other words, will my current headers and rocker gear work with them or do they require the Indy stuff? How is the price on these as compared to the regular SR's? And do they require the oil lines too?
Thanks
Rick

Ron,
too busy in the shop to do much "investigative measuring", but the advertised numbers are 270/275 CC's for the intake runners, and they are available with either the std ICH heart shaped 75cc chamber, or an 80cc version, in which they do the same thing Ebrock did for the 84cc to 88cc deal on their heads.

AAR, these two versions of the EZ's are somewhat of a "stock replacement" head.
they dont use external oiling(the next two bigger versions do), they dont need special headers, they require longer pushrods, they can use any std type BB rocker arms.
they do need different head bolts(same as the SR and 440-1), and have raised intake ports so the ICH valley cover can be used instead of the valley pan gasket.
the heads themselves are slightly less money than the SR's.

the basic "kit" comes with:
-assembled heads
-pushrod kit
-valley cover
-intake gaskets
-head bolts

Thanks Dwayne

since you waited so long to get yours, they should be the new raised runner version.

Dwayne, you're scaring me here with those flow #'s on the EZ-1. It's looking like they're better than the SR's I ordered, at least on the intake. What's the deal?

Exactly 610 posts on old board, first whacked post in the history of this one! Funny moparts quote from Waginator: "*If you want your package lost, like bermuda triangle lost, use DHL (formerly airborne) *if you want it to get there but destroyed, use UPS."

Dwayne,

Nice post, .. thanks for the info.

It looks like these will be the heads to have over the SR's.
I have SR's flowing 362 @ .700" FULLY ported, .. it looks like
the MW EZ's will get past that fully ported, .. do you think??

Again, .. nice info, .. !

Curtis

Various pre-bedtime ramblings...

- wondering how well the standard EZ would respond on the intake w/ the same CNC bowl work, yet keeping the standard-size intake entry

- very interested in seeing the pics of the bowls, especially to compare the OOTB vs CNC versions

- wondering how long we'll have to wait to see the results of the standard EZ w/ PRH valve job & back-cut valve
