For a second there, I thought the question was about cookware.

Take a 30 year old block and do the machine work. Now add in the girdle and cap costs and what does it come to? Spend a little more and buy something that should last you a lifetime. Keith Black or Indy.
Yeah was thinking along those lines, but am currently running two cars, a pro gas bike and currently building a Nitro Harley, so trying to keep cost down. The spare block I have is good and not looking for huge HP

At what level or power is cap walk a problem with a big block? I know the LA motors kill themselves with it but I didn't think it was a huge deal with the BBM
When Jason Pettis did my last freshen up on my 470 BB, I asked how bad my cap walk was and he said that he`d seen way worse so,................. And that`s well over 600 hp and stock caps.
I think people underestimate the strength of the factory blocks. I see a lot of overspending on overkill, yet people refuse to spend money in the machine shop on things that can really extend longevity. I've seen plenty of 400's and 440 blocks with stock caps and no girdles, hold 600+ force fed & naturally aspirated without fail.
A good amount of success with factory blocks lies in machine work, prep & assy, and the tune.

we have plenty of guys running our bcr girdle and caps and their engines hold up better and see very little to no cap walk. its the only girdle and cap combo engineered to fully distribute the load placed on the mains across the entire girdle.
also we just lowered pricing not that long ago, i don't think its been update on the website. $625 for the kit, and we only supply name brand ARP studs in our kit.
I had currently built a 499 N/A street car motor for a 3715lbs car. The first time we built it we used the factory caps which made me nervouse becuase they were walking around at 451 cubic inches and with more cubes the motor made another 75hp. The car went 10.50@130. During the winter i took the motor apart because a roller lifter had failed, only to see the caps had been walking. I talked to these guys and they have sold me on there system and havent had a issue since. When i did have cap walk all the bearings looked perfectly fine but i guess i wanted to spend the money for reasurnace. I also like to play on side of caution with rotating assembly becuase when they come apart, not to much of anything else is left. Very happy with the product and service!
Thanks Cuda, Like I said earlier, I'm trying to build with pieces I already have and keeping cost down, otherwise I would just buy a new block. Same as you looking for a solution for peace of mind and fairly inexpensive way to strengthen the bottom.

You've said you want to build a blown motor, are we talking 600hp or 1000hp? What are your goals?
If its on the lower end of the spectrum I would put aluminum main caps on it, and be done with it. IF you want to push the power limits, a block is going to be a good investment. Sounds like you already have plenty of toys.

Yeah, should be around 800hp, was thinking fully grout block as well? haven't had much to do with blowers before, and just want to play with one, Also looking at a Powerglide to go behind
