I finally scored the correct '66 only column shift setup for my silver 440 model car. The only problem is that it's green instead of black. Should I b painting it suede or gloss or? Does anyone have a paint code for me?

Thank you!

Suede. Well, mine is a kind of a shiny suede. I think it is worn suede.

Interesting. I will take pictures of my columns (I have two '66 and one '67). They seem more shiny than suede like the dash frame.

Dig this:

Mine was gloss.

(66' in signature picture below)

For sure gloss...with the cool chrome gear selector arm

Mine is definetely glossier than the dash frame. I wouldn't call it a full gloss though. It's finish is like it was suede but it's been polished if that makes sense. It is not smooth like the door tops are.

That is why I was destined to find the correct steering column to replace the '67 unit in the car. Got to get rid of that tacky plastic knob having shifter lol

No no no

I looked for a picture of this but couldn't find a good one, I'll see if I can find something showing the gloss finish of it.

I really liked the way it looked. I drove this car daily for almost 7 years and have wiped the dust from it countless times...mine was gloss.

Fenton Mo built car if it matters, late 65' build.

Sold it recently and it went out of the area so can't get a fresh pic

Go gloss, you won't be dissapointed

Here is the best I can come up with

A crummy low resolution picture taken from my tablet...but you can still see the reflection of the turn signal lever in the column.

Can't believe I don't have better pictures of things like this for as long as I've had it.

Cool you decided to save your Coronet I remember your post about it when you found it, it looked nice.

Any new progress pictures of it?

Regardless of whatever finish you choose it'll be a neat car

Thank you, I will probably hit it with some gloss for now. We got a little side tracked moving, then buying another house and moving again as we speak. Good timing as you can see.

The good news is that I have the following replacement parts piled up for the car:

vinyl top
headliner
recovered seats
electronic ignition
DMT heater box kit
REM fire wall insulation/under-dash jute
wiper pivot seals
PG Classic dash pad (total POS, might go with a dash cap)
exhaust system
replacement exhaust manifolds on the way
replacement dash cluster/glove box door/circuit board
original AM radio
new seat belts
3-spoke wood grain wheel / center cap
steering column (duh)
carpet
sill plates
package tray/jute

I think that is all of it. I have a ton of work to do before the snow flies. I'll update my project thread in the next couple of weeks. I'm thinking once the interior is done I'll pull the glass and install the vinyl top and headliner. Once that is done it will be time to decide if the car should have satin clear over the original patina or a fresh coat of buffed silver metallic.

Thank you for asking!

Thank you, I appreciate the insight. Glossy will be much easier to spray than non-glossy. All of this good information helps make up for the pitiful dash pad I got from PG lol.
