Just wondering what codes I can decipher at home. Wife said oil, coolant, temp was fine.

3 quick turns on the key?

Most manufacturers have eliminated the self diagnose function. But most any AutoZone or O'Reilly's or the like provide scan service free.

Our 05 Caravan will still self-diagnose with 3 key turns. Not sure if an 06 will.

Try it and look the codes up on the internet.

That will get you pretty far.

Key dance still works on our 05, should on yours too. 9 times out of 10 the gas cap was loose, 10th time was battery related.

Thank you

Evap? Last time we had a check engine light it was a leaking head gasket.

PO406 EGR valve?

Is that the thing on the passenger side exhaust manifold with the wires hanging out?

On most vans they are above the alternator.

Wire mounted on top of a solenoid with a heat-shielded tube coming up to the top of the intake.

I just did one on the van where I work. Easy job.

Sounds right. They are a little pricey at the auto supplies. If you have a pick a part yard near you, they go for $5-$10 usually.

The bottom bolt is a little tough to get to. I usually grind the small hump and bolt on top of the alternator to get access to the lower mounting bolt. And using a 1/4" drive helps, too.
