My 98 Ram has ABS rear brakes, to which I've just had to add new steel line (old rotted out) and wheel cyls. I refilled the MC and opened the bleeders for like 2 hours but never gotta drop. Is it not possible to gravity bleed ABS? How would I go about it? Thanks.
Ken.

Did it many times at home and at the shop.Just did the same things on the Durango.I pump the brakes a few times. Then open the bleeders. It should start to drip.Sometimes you need to pump them and repeat a few times.Rocky

Did you try to bleed it the normal way with someone pumping the brakes while you open and close the bleeders? You may need to force the fluid into the system through the HCU if it was dry.

If that does not work, you might need a DRB to bleed it properly. You need to get into the ABS module, there's a whole sequence to perform. Not sure if a generic scsnner can do it.

I would open the right rear bleeder and stroke the pedal once to get the fluid moving.

Fluid should drip steady within 1-2 minutes if it is gonna work.

If it does then move to left rear, then right front and finish with left front.

Make sure to leave the cap off of the master cylinder while gravity bleeding.

I usually do the bleeding solo... So I will pump them, then open the bleeder til fluid comes out and I don't see air. Then close and pump the brakes and do the same procedure a few times until I get no air. I did the lines on my 01 ram this way and it has abs.

Thanks guys, yep, got'er done, stops better than it has in 100K miles. When I took the old wheel cyls off the other day, rusty water squirted out of both, so I made sure to run cleaner through the lines and blew them out before reattaching them to the new ones, anyway, got all new fluid, new lines, cyls and shoes so all is good again. It has 275K miles on it and this was the first time the bleeders had been opened. To my shame. Lol. Thanks for the help guys.

Now, how do I get the "brakes" light and the "ABS" light to go off?
