So I've been collecting parts for a while. picking them up cheap as I find them. I have the basics but now I'm at the point where I need to makes decision based on what I have not what I find:

The plan to build a 9.5ish : 1 471 stroker with 6lbs of boost from a centrifical blower.

Here's what I have:

new 3.75 stroke 440 source crank that I will have offset ground to 3.915 stroke. I got cheap scratch and dent
new BME forged Aluminum rods with coated bearing 6.535 length - got em cheap also. I plan on following the rules for AL rods. warm the engine, keep oil temp low, etc.
400 block bought as a rebuilt .030 over 400. Plan on pulling the guts out and having it checked and honed as needed.
440 source stealth heads. - Plan on having them checked out by machinist and installing comp retainers
used crane cams adjustable rockers & hardened steel shafts
Custom ground cam & rebuild McCulloch (paxton) SN60 from John Erb
Edelbrock torquer 383 intake
Holley 750 DP to be setup for blow thru

What I'm planning on buying

-24 dished pistons from 440 source
custom pushrods (smiths maybe?)
Comp solid lifters - They ground the cam for Mr. Erb
oil pump Melling?
CSU carb hat

So what do you guy's think? Any advice? any comments on my plan so far? Here's what I have Here's what I have

I think if you wanted a 3.91 stroke crank you should of bought from 440 source first. They are available.

But since you have the 3.75 crank stick with it. Your going to have boost, so you will have plenty of power.

From the parts you've gathered I would recommend steel rods over the aluminum. I know Bill Miller says they'll live in a street car, and they may live even better with boost, but I am leery about using them for something that'll see a lot of street miles.

Thanks for the input guys.

I picked up the crank cause I could afford it at the time and was planning on building a 451.

When I came across the the new rods with bearings for $200 at a swap meet that kinda changed the plan. I could not pass up a deal like that. I was gonna run H Beams but figured these would be better for boost as long as I take the needed precautions.

Any one build a motor similar with or with out boost? If so what kinda HP TQ were you getting out of it?

I'd run a proform main body with your 750, it will flow much better (823cfm) I'd also send you carb to SDCE and have Scott boost prep it. I gave him mine and the specs of the engine/car and he did a bang up job...
you should have way more hp than mine but my old set-up was a .030 over 9ish:1 440, with stock replacement cast pistons, Summit 488 cam, 906 heads, RPM intake 750 DP w/ proform main body, SN-2000 w/ modifed impeller, 1 3/4 headers, 727, 175 convert (2800) and 3.91's (3.55's would have been better) car went from 12.90's (good day) to 12.0's. Swapped to a different pulley for more boost but never ran it.

Great looking engine. What did your car weigh?

Depending on boost ,bob weight and rpm, bloc life may suffer. One thing that will seriously help the situation is a center weighted crank. It spreads the stress back to where it comes from, taking some of the load off of number two and four bearings and spreading it to the others.
I mention this because most of us get greedy for power, and with a forced induction, you can go too far easily with the right setup. You should use after market main caps for sure. I like aluminum, to lower the shock loads. Other guys go with steel, for other reasons.

What are different benefits between ALuminum and Steel billet caps? What a stud girdle? I would think those would help with the cap walk more than caps?

Alum. will absorb some of the shock load , the best system is the BRC caps and girdle , contact member Jerry , he has taken over making them from Greg/BRC.

I don't see a problem if you stay in the 5 lb boost range. I suggest, as with any build, that you start with a HP goal and build from there.
