anyone using 518 o/d for street and track/what eng and what hp level do you have? what did you do about t/conv, l/up or non l/u? how is it holding up? if bb, what did u use for bellhousing? thanks in advance.
I'm running a 518 in the Rampage... I changed the input shaft and pump to use a standard hi stall conv.. I dont have lock up that way... its behind a 550 hp 418ci... love the OD... cuts the revs down nicely with 4.10 gears

Its a early 90s trans... mine is a 3 pin connector or you can use a single pin connector... do not use the 7 pin unit.. that requires the computer to control the trans.. mine is just a regular valve body so it shifts like a normal trans... but the OD can be left on in any gear... but its advised to not put a lot of power to the OD unit... its just a clutch that engages it with a 900# spring pressure

I have a 518 in my 92 D150 however its behind a relatively stock 5.2 ( 318) that runs low 15s, Last year I pulled the trans and had a M/P shift kit installed as well as having the stock lockup converter redone by Lenny at Ultimate the results are a tenth reduction in 60 ft times and a nice hard first to second shift as well as crisp shifts 2nd to 3rd. A number of years ago I changed the rear from 3.55s to 4.10s with the overdrive it still cruises at low rpms. When I`m racing it , I take it out of overdrive.

I put the trans-go kit in it from the get go and run a 5000 stall conv... it shifts good and firm but I'm still playing with throttle pressure... even in lock up in high gear it accelerates hard... this should end up being a 10.0 ride

Raff, which trans-go kit did you use?
Too many cars, too many parts, too little coin, too little space to work in, too little time left to make it all happen!
Update: down to one ride, still too many parts, a little more jingle in the pocket, gaining space, and it's going to happen this year!

Mike its been a while since I put that trans together but as I remember it has a 518 non lock up input shaft and pump. This would have come out of an early 90's dodge diesel. Front drum is slightly different then a 727, so you need the unique non lock up early 90's pump and input shaft.
Trans holding up OK? I was wondering if the OD unit would live under that much power.
I dont recall... I just called CRT and John said he had the parts... so far its only had about 30 miles on it and I just roll into the OD but I like that I can be in OD in any gear.. but if its on I try to take it some what easy on it.... Scott do you remember which Trans go kit I got

So how is the OD activated?? I would think you'd only want it applied in the high (1:1) gear... engages it with a 900# spring pressure

Being its electrically activated I have a switch on the shifter to kick it on and off

Just to clarify, what exactly so you mean the OD can be left on in any gear? Do you mean you can just leave it on and it works normally or is the OD engaged along with whatever gear it's in(example 1st + OD)?
