My '68 RR was equipped with F70x14 Redline tires and the 15x5.5 styled road wheels (Magnum 500s). I have the buildsheet for the car. The tires are called out on the fender tag. I understand that when the car was equiped with Styled Road Wheels it only came with 4 and a plain steel wheel was provided as the spare. My question is, would there be a Red Line tire supplied as a spare or something else? On my build sheet in the box labeled "Tires", there is a sub box under it Labeled 43 - 44 and below that there is 4 4 printed. I don't know if that helps. Thanks Frank

Spare would be a red line tire on a plain black steel rim.

Mike, Sorry, I must have been typing with my toes. 14 x 5.5 is correct. It would have been some trick to get the F70x14 tires to hold air on those 15" rims. LOL. And for clarification there is 44 on the fender tag for tires. Well, the hunt begins for a 14" steel rim. Thanks to all. Frank

Frank, pretty sure you've seen this thread (I.D. for a '68 RR spare wheel click here) that shows the correct "look" for the steel spare. My '68 RR was a St. Louis "G" built car but I would think the production requirements were the same for all Chrysler plants......to a point as we have all come to learn.
Now I have another question about the spare tire trunk mount (not too far OT) threaded rod that hold the wheel, jack base and hook.......what does it look like and how does it attach? I have a complete bracket that was cut out of a '69 and it is different for the threaded rod. The bracket that is in my '68 RR is missing the rod but I think I have one (somewhere ) but before I go looking I'm hoping to see a photo of this threaded rod and how it attaches. Here's the '69 bracket, rod and jack post hold down plate.
Thanks,
MikeR

Mike, As a matter of fact your thread is what caused me to ask about my spare. I don't have access to my car at this moment but I think 68Jim's photos are spot on. Thanks again for everyone's help. Frank

A12,
Here is a shot of my 68 Road Runner's tire hook. I had it plated with a few other items, the trunk latch will give you a reference for dimensions and general shape. I have a picture from the body shop work that shows the bracket but only from the back view. I can post a picture later of the side view if needed.

Jim thanks, now it makes sense. I was looking for a rod that bolted or was attached somehow to the bracket but now I see that it "hooks" under the half loop at the top of the welded in bracket
Here is the '68 B-body spare tire bracket;

I have a buddy looking for that rod as well for his 68 GTX. I'm guessing it may be a one year only thing for B-bodies. My 67 GTX had the tire in the bottom of the trunk-well and I think it used something more like a carriage bolt arrangement. The 69 had the bolt thru rod like in your earlier pictures. The rod measures 9.5" long and 2.5" at the widest point of the hook, and if you find more than one let me know.
Jim
Jim, would these measurments be fairly close? Could you please, when you get a chance see if I'm close. I used the wingnut as a gauge at 3-1/4" (measured the wing nut I have from the '69 cutout). I found the thread to be 3/8" course thread and may try to make a temporary one for now. If I find a source for them I let you and everyone know, till then I think I'll try to make one. Thanks in advance.

(I did this as a scratch drawing, if it's close I'll make a better one for you.)

Mike, Here's how mine measures. Also if you EVER need info, pic's, measurements, ect... drop me a line I will help anyway I can. As you may or may not know my 68 is pretty much unmolested it's just had reg. services over the years.
