I would like to pick up a repro shaker hood at Carlise. Does anyone make a repro aside from AMD (Goodmark?)? If so, what is the consensus on the best repro hood out there?

I tried searching this but was getting overwhelmed with the results. Thanks!

It depends on the definition of 'best'.

The most accurate reproductions are made using a Harms kit, available at RestoRick. You will need a clean, flat hood as a donor and expect to do some welding and metalwork.

For a hood ready to go, the AMD is a very nice piece and would be a top choice for a non-N96 car

Gean Gregory makes a decent repro from original hoods, but there are significant differences in the underbracing and the weld patterns vs original

Art at SixPack performance usually has a few of his hoods available on row 'L', and Art is a good guy to deal with

Northwest Performance/Ben Snobar makes an affordable DIY shaker kit but it does require lots of work to get right. Particularly the trim ring

If your car is an original shaker car, and the budget doesn't permit an original Challenger shaker, then the Harms kit would be top recommendation for closest to factory

If you're adding the option, the AMD hood can't be beat for the $$$

The only full, quality REPRO hood on the market is the AMD piece, the downside to using one of the conversion kits, is finding a nice clean, rustfree, non pitted original hood

It's an original n96 car. I have the harms kit and a clean donor hood, but wasn't sure it was worth the effort using that with the repro options available.

Do you guys know anyone who does the conversions in the north east? I don't want to take on that project myself or give it to someone inexperienced to do.

Ron Johnson has done the conversions with the Harms kits in the past, you might try him. If you want a factory looking under brace structure the Harms kit (now available through www.restorick.com) is the ONLY accurate design on the market other than an original hood, kit, complete hood, or otherwise.

.....And not correct in the (obvious to any knowledgeable observer) details, something that matters to most owners of an original N96 car.

Personally I'd skip all of the above for a real N96 car and seek out and buy a real one, even if it ended up being a long search and big money.

Thanks for the input. I think I will dust off the kit & the donor hood and take another look at it. Of course, I'd love to get a real hood for the car, but I've yet to stumble on one priced in my range.

See Art Pacheco at Carlisle, he has shaker hoods by Gene Gregory and all the goodies. Six Pack Performance is at row L spaces 101 to 105. Art is a great guy and has excellent pieces.

Here is an example of what you can find after having a Challenger shaker hood stripped.

This hood was clean and relatively undamaged in the nose section (usually very vulnerable to rust and/or collision damage). However, per the photo someone has attempted to reattach an original shaker underbrace by both brazing it and beating the living daylights out of it.

With paint on it, there was no indication of the horrors underneath. So be careful before you drop $2K or more on an original.

Suffice it to say, I won't be using this hood....
