I generally subscribe to the " If it ain't broke, don't fix it theory". I use conventional 80-90 gear oil with limited slip additive. I used a NAPA additive, I think the brand name was X-Track or something like that. It's a good idea to use the additive as an assembly lube when putting the sure-grip unit together.

I put amsoil synthetic in mind and it already has
the friction modifier in it. No chatter here.

If ONLY they still had it available !! There was an EMPTY can of this that sold on eBay for 25$ or so some time ago !!!

The last time I picked up a SG pig at the JY ...I drained and SAVED the lube ... very VERY stinky skunk-oil ! I still have it to use in my next project.

But the closest I have seen to that old-lube is Mobil-1 syn gear-lube.

THIS is one of the oddest auctions on eBay I have ever seen. It was clearly advertised as empty ...and from the pic ... looked VERY sharp and clean.

??... Maybe he just wanted to crack-open the can once a month and get a good wiff of that SKUNK-oil.

I wouldn't recommend sythetics in a limited slip, yes, I'm very aware the factory diffs often are.
