so im thinking about eliminating the leafs in my d100 and putting in a 4 link with coil overs. anyone else have a 4 link setup on their d series? im mostly going to drive it on the street. but plan on taking it to the drag strip from time to time. i was looking at the competition engineering 2017 and 2028 kits. im leaning towards the 2028. anyone have any other suggestions on a good kit to get?

If it's going to be a daily driver or even close, I would stick with the leaves. If tire clearance is your concern, move the leaves inboard. A 15x14 or maybe 15x15 will go under there with no frame mods...just by moving the springs, and some tub work. Yes, a leaf spring truck can hook up.

Ladder bars, super simple and hooks in a car wash...4-links are a pain. Also, its likely a 4-link will have the coil overs protrude thru the bed...

your truck is one of my favorite d series trucks ive seen. did you eliminate the leafs? id love to see some more pictures of your setup. what brand coil overs did you use? did you buy a ladder bar kit or did you make it yourself?

im wanting to eliminate the leafs due to them being junk. plus im planning to lower

You can also look at running ladder bars with leafs. There is a kit that allows the housing to "float" as needed to prevent binding with the leafs.

Pretty simple setup, and doesn't cost much if you can do the welding yourself.

thats a nice truck in your sig. any details on the lowering you did to it? i have 1 ton control arms to put on mine. yours is sitting about the height i want mine to sit.

im leaning that way. any suggestions on kits for the ladder bars and a kit for the coil overs? the leafs are going to get eliminated. like i said the ones on it now are junk and i dont want to pay to put another set on it. i dont see a point in buying ladder bars and putting leafs back on it.

i was looking at this kit for coils. going to replace the shocks that it comes with eventually with air shocks.

I used a aftermarket lower control arm..its not all that great(its about all that was out there 8yrs ago)..if I had to over again I would use the 1 ton arms...I used 32 bars and qa1 shocks for the rear

A 4 bar system closely resembles a 4 link but is much more street friendly. Either way your going to have the replace the underbed gas tank with a fuel cell to make room unless you have a in cab tank.. .

I wish that I could just lift the body of my Ramcharger off the frame so that I could fabricate a rear suspension as nice as that one. Unfortunately I can't do that with the Ramcharger and just to grind the heads off the rivets holding the rear spring hangers to the frame and then using the air chisel to punch them out was a major PITA. But I am having fun in my garage!!!

Just an aftermarket set-up. I do not recall what brand, but I will look under it. No leafs. Rides and drives better than my diesel and nothing protrudes thru the bed.

Explain why a coil over would mount higher on a 4 link vs a ladder bar set up?

i plan on putting a fuel cell in it. so all that space is free. so is there any disadvantages to competition engineering parts? im debating between these

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/cmb-15-0017/overview/
http://www.jegs.com/i/Competition+Engineering/247/2006/10002/-1

or the street kit from artmorrison which runs about $720

if i order the CE kits i will weld most of it together.

The so called street kits have 60' times all over the board in something that leaves hard Urethane is not as stiff as a hiem joint

How fast do you want to go? & how much street driving are you going to do?

I can tell you from past experience if you ride hiems on the street & you don't grease them regular your next launch may be into the next lane

You can run 10's with leaf springs cheap & lower it till the frame sits on the ground
