Need to build a new 727 for a 440 and have a few questions..... What are my options for a manual valve body, forward pattern, with Low Band Apply Also rear sprag for BB 727 Is the factory sprag press in? Is there a factory bolt in sprag? ( I know there are aftermarket bolt in sprags ) Which bolt in sprag would be best for a mild bracket car (10 sec 3300 lb car) Thanks in advance ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbs.gif)

ALL factory sprags were/are press in... a normal bolt in sprag is NO BETTER than the press in sprag.. the bolt in sprag was developed for if you spun a sprag in the case... the super sprags made by a couple of companies have a lot more rollers and wont allow it to roll over.. as for the valve body there are numerous that make a good valve body... in my opinion if you use a super sprag you dont need the LBA valve body but if you do go with it it will slow you car on decell in low gear where a non LBA wont ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif)

There's a guy on another Mopar forum who has killed 3 Supersprags with a LBA valve body. Like a belt and suspenders, both isn't a bad idea.
I think he has a problem building his tranny or he is doing something SERIOUSLY wrong.. like I've said many times I still have a stock drum and never broke any trans in 45 years of racing... but you cant do stupid stuff... no LBA ... get out of low as soon as possible ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif)

OK, what driving technique would kill Supersprags with a LBA valve body?

None of the things you mention would explain failure with LBA. Anecdotal experience varies. I can add myself to the list of people who abused stock factory sprags to the limit (Clutchflite, 40 lb. flywheel, launch a WOT, 3000 lb. car, no LBA) and never had a failure of any kind and, yet, I personally witnessed big time failures in cars with less abusive use than mine. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shruggy.gif) This merely illustrates the difference between doing it wrong and getting away with it versus doing it right.
