All LRE trucks are column shift (correct?). What do they do to get the (Factory) adapter to work? Or do the LRE's have a special set up to make them work (or no adapters at all?). I'd like to put a Tuff wheel on my '76 Dodge P/U. But I just want this answered before I get into it and start looking.
Some pics would be nice too

You confuse me unless there's a tilt column in your truck.

Is your 76 truck a 4x4 or 2wd? The 4x4 has a different adapter because the steering shaft is a diffent size and also no master spline, they are not as easy to find. If it is 2wd I believe the adapters are the same as the cars.

The FPB & FSM indicate that 4X4 & 2WD use the same steering wheel with the splines different between tilt & non tilt

Check to see if your adapter and column have an index key, if one of them does not it's off a 4x4. Don't know much if anything about the 70's tilt columns, don't see them very often.

Mike,
Another option is to use a repro wheel from Grant. They used to offer one that looked similar to the TUFF wheel but had slight differences. I'm sure it would be much cheaper than a NOS or even a decent used original Tuff.
The Mopar Action Bold Beeper has one of the Grant wheels. They did an article on the install a few years back.

Bulletbob you are right that the tilt does have a different spline, however the 4wd and 2wd spline is also different even if both are non tilt. I know a guy that grinded a few splines off a 4wd steering shaft to get the car tuff adapter to go on, still would not work. They are diffent.

Yep, I've looked at them. I'm not opposed to them at all. You have anything I could use? I'm open to trades!

I have this wheel that came off a 79 LRE that I parted out a few years back, also think I still have the column here as well. And you don't need the adapter.

I used the repor Grant "Tuff" wheel and adapator in my 76 Dodge 2wd short box. I had no problems with the kit. It looks close enough to an original set up for me. Josh-

I've always thought about putting a stock E-body wheel in a truck, it looks good. I think I still have one kicking around here somewhere.

Thats an "E" body wheel mounted on an "A" body can. I had tried using a Grant GT wheel but it obscured my vision of the insturment cluster.
