Hey all Mopar racers,

Had a new winter project of a stroked 513 RB with B1 heads and the engine pulled at a dyno run 798hp@6800 rpm. Going to have the motor dropped between the fenders of a 68 Dart GT. Powerline consists of a JW Powerglide and D60 rear with Cal Tracs and monoleafs. Target is to run low 10's at 1/4 mile.

One of the last items under construction is the fuel line and buying the fuel pump.

What would you recommend for feeding enough fuel these horses, the size of the fuel line and especially specs for fuel pump and make to use?

I have used all kinds, sizes and brands of electric pumps over the years. I have been bitten more than once from not having enough fuel supply, volume, not pressure, and burned up parts from that If I was you I would buy a lot bigger pump than you think you need to start with now, the reson being was on the last car I built I bought a Mganafuel 275 pump for my pump gas street and strip Duster. I had dyno tested it on CA pump gas, it made 612 HP at 5600 RPM and 644 Ft. Lbs at 4500, Magnafuel told me that the 275 pump would safely feed 750 HP I later switched the heads, two different times, and increased the compression ratio and the C.I. a little, 512 at 9.25 to 1 comp. ratio to 518 C.I. at 10,29 to 1 the first time and 10.78 to 1 the second time which ended up making 728 HP on Oregon pump gas I also had to replaced the fuel pump and location and size of the fuel filter element on the filter between the pump and the gas tank My message is buy the biggest pump you will ever imagine needing and follow the instructions on all the fuel line sizes, inlet, bypass, and main line to the fuel regulator and the fuel filter sizes and locations I ended up trading that car(3450 Lbs , 9.96 ET at 134.6 MPH corked up on pump gas motor only ) for a all out race car, it had a cam driven mechanical fuel pupm on it for alcohol, I'm replacing it with a Mganfuel 500, I'm going to use E 85, I have several BG 400 and another Magnafuel 300 pump in stock but those three are all marginal for the HP and fuel requirements for the 505 C.I. E 85 motor, accordinhg to Magnafuel Buy big now or later, your choice IHTHs

Thanks for your valuable comments

Would this Weldon pump be an overkill and generating excessive heat for the fuel?

I have some plans to use E85 in the future and I assume in that case this might be a good match

I went with a racepumps 2000 mechanical pump on my 572 Hemi, as long as your fuel lines are sealed up good, then it works beautiful. Tim

I'm sure it will work for your application with the proper return style regulator I like to get the best parts for the job, Weldon has made electrict fuel pumps for the small airpalne industry for years and years, they are good I also like to get the best part to do the job for the best price, not the cheapest part that will do the job Look at the prices of that pump and return regulator and then look at other brands that will do the same jod on thier specs like Weldon has I selected the Magnfuel pumps due to them having thier return lines on the pump instead of having to run another fuel line back to the gas tank from the front of the motor BTW, the fuel regulator should be mounted in front of the carb, bowls Your choice on parts, make sure and use a 80 micron or bigger fuel filter between the pump and the sump on the tank I used a Aeromotive 80 micron fuel filter and cut off valve on the tank and another 10 micron BG 500 fuel filter between the pump and the fuel regualtor to capture any small debris that went through the pump and filter in the rear Another thing that can bite you is the size of the needles and seats in the carb. It has bitten me more than once Alcohol should be .150 and E85 should be at least .130 for a single carb., stainless steel on both .120 on gasoline, I like and use the Holley Viton needles and seats on gasoline If your using multiple carbs you can use smaller but I don't now I really like the 511, 512 and 518 C.I. strokers, both B and RB, they flat rock I'm sure yours will put a big smile on your face
