Fellas - Anyone have a recommendation for pot metal chroming? Looking for someone reliable who won't charge me an arm and a leg for some small stuff. Needs to be very nice, but I'm not after perfection. Here's what I have so far: Advance Custom Chrome, Erie, PA Paul's Chrome - http://www.paulschrome.com/ - Evans City, PA; Iverson Automotove - http://iversonautomotive.com/index.html - Minnesota; Advanced Plating in Nashville TN (800-588-6686) - I believe this is the place I heard about that's quite expensive, but does fantastic work. Any recommendations on plastic chroming? I used CV platers in the past, but they're out of business. Thanks! Scott

Glen Baughman at www.gcartrim.com for plastic chrome plating. He was tight with CV Platers, even bought some of thier eqipment, he's VERY good at it and competitively priced. QUALITY Chromed pot metal restoration that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? Good luck with that! I've seen Iversons work, he's very talented. The work is like body work, the old plating is stripped, the pits are revealed, the pits are filled, then the bondo (copper) goes on and is polished and worked to a perfectly smooth surface before nickel and chrome plating. It's tedious time consuming work and you need to be VERY good at it to properly restore (and avoid ruining) a part to a show worthy level.

Whoever you go with, make sure you clearly understand the process. If they say they'll plate the heck out of it with copper to fill the pits, run away fast. If they say they will use bondo or some other sort of plastic filler for the pits, run away fast. Pot Metal is crap metal to start with and wasn't designed to really last. The cleaner your cores the better, but don't give your best cores to someone unless they did good work before on some or your not so good pieces. And stay away from NuChrome in Falls River, Mass..DAMHIK...,

I use S&H Chrome Plating in Madison, Tennessee. Phone: (615) 865-0100
Reasonable prices, excellent work, including pot metal. They have a booth at the Moultrie, GA swap meet, November and February of every year.
