Other than a modern braking system, are you trying to keep the car original?

To take this one a bit further, are you stuck with the old solid axle? A mustangII front suspension would be a really good fit. Again talk to the Fatman.

Yes I want to keep the straight axle for old gasser look and its real mopar. so l got an ldea from one of the conversion kits I'm going to try, the 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern should be the same as the later model dodge trucks and if it comes to it the fords also, I want to press out the studs knock off the factory drum and replace it with 5 on 5.5 rotor then run the studs back through. Using the same years disc brake caliper with it. Making my own caliper bracket out of plate steel. Like the conversion kits use. probably not going to be as easy as it sounds. Still open for ideals and or suggestions. Thanks everybody for any help

I take it your not going to run the stock 31 wheels...I have a 31' Sedan I am building...the ford truck wheels will work. I'd like to see how you work this out, I am still planning on going with the stock front end for now...maybe you could share some pics a bit later.
Good Luck in the build!

Every old Mopar that I have seen has a 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern, even the 3/4 ton pickups of the 30s and 40s.
I remember my cousin's '34 plymouth sedan with its 5 on 4.5" wheels.
Fords were 5 on 5.5.

Good fit if you want another cookie cutter rod.

Nope, I am running stock 1931 19" wire wheels on my sedan and they are 5 on 5.5"....here's another good one, my 24' Dodge is 5 on 6.5"...try and find different than stock rims for that baby.

you might look at an ebay seller called scarebird---he has a bunch of lazer cut adapter plates that disc up older cars---also one of my friends did his rear discs on a 35 plymouth with a lincoln rear rotor covered with a subaru front caliper--the subaru front has an E-brake cable that is so flexible you can tie it in knots...bob

Good suggestion, and he's not just on ebay. He has a regular website. If you contact him, maybe he could help.

I searched our local salvage yard looking for 1/2 ton 5on5.5 front disc brakes ( found a 2001 ford triton 4x4 )has a bigger center hub . So with the stock hubs and bearings on the stock spindles ( with old drums removed) I turned down the outside edge of the stock hub( on the same brake lathe that I turned the rotors on) enough to fit in the new 5 on 5.5 rotors and put them on . Then attach the caliper and bracket see where they line up compared to the attaching point at the backing plate bolts ( with backing plate removed from front axel) make a plate adapter out of 3/8 ish plate steel and I will be done maybe a mopar performance proportioning valve. When I get it all on I will let you know how it works .......also the brake assemble I pulled off the 2001 furd was a bosch system so it is not real furd it was just the salvage yard contaner where they keep the rest of the fords
