Did Challengers have the black wiindow trim with louvers and Vinyl roof. My Challenger has louvers and chrome window trim and no Vinyl Roof.

Now I have read the Dealer Books and still have not decided just what it says and if I understand what it actually says. Cudas, could you get a Louver without a Vinyl Roof. If you could only get the Louvers with a Vinyl Roof did all get the Black Window Trim with the rear window louvers. Also on Barracudas or Cudas did the Black Window Trim come on cars without Window Louvers and if they did what option was it included in.

One other thing if you had to have a vinyl roof with the window louvers on your Cuda, did it have to be a black vinyl roof. Another person asked me some questions on Louvers and I wanted to give him the correct information just not what I thought was correct.

So many questions and so little time to answer....no, yes, no, yes...some Gran Coupes, yes.
I think I was correct here, hope that helps

Rear window louvers on the E bodies are usually a source of controversy,.....Dealer/owner installed, the field is wide open, after 30+ years and approx 300+ E bodies parted, along with untold purchases/trades of cars/parts...I'll only mention what I've had or seen, I've only had a handfull of E bodies that were Louver equipped (unfortunately the louvers were always long gone)... Cuda's that I had, had black vinyls, some had textured moulding, some chrome,...I only had 1 louver equipped 70 Challenger, black vinyl, black painted mouldings (but not textured) which I still have, I've stripped them of paint, Stainless, but never polished, the 71 Challenger louver equipped, had brite stainless mouldings and IIRC no vinyl...the sets of Cuda/Barracuda GC painted mouldings that I've had were painted aluminum...

The painted aluminum Cuda mouldings were also on Barracuda Gran Coupes (available with/without louvers). I've had several sets off GC's over the decades, all where black vinyl/black moulding cars, with the exception of a 71 GC with a white vinyl top/white mouldings

WOW thanks for that old link, very interesting.

I ask, if I wanted to do a textured "cuda moulding what product would I use to get the right type finish?

Thanks

None, you would need the originals, which incidently are NOT made of aluminum. They are a copper nickel type of casting, very tough, aluminum ones would be toast if you did anything on them to straighten them or fix the parts that get bent when they are removed improperly from their mounting clips.

Hey Terry where you going so fast ???

Hi Dwight... Thanks for the input...I know the trim seems lighter than the stainless pieces so it was purely an educated guess about the aluminum based on the color and weight after the paint is stripped...

Hmmmmm?,...Interesting, as I thought they were aluminum, they feel like aluminum, appear aluminum after being stipped of paint, they sand/grind/finish out as aluminum, they are DEFINITELY formed, not "cast"?.....as to them being "toast" if a repair was attempted...I sold a set to Member here on Moparts about 1-2 years ago, unfortunately UPS ran the box over with a friggin forktruck (The wheel prints confirmed that!) some sections of the mouldings were badly crushed and/or bent, I later effected repairs to them like any other stainless or aluminum molding that's dented/bent/flattened, and returned them to the customer,...the only "toast", that I might have encounted, was what I had for breakfast

To all in the know.
What do I need to do to memic the original black ones?

Anodize black?

Scuff and paint black with satin or flat black?

Use some kind of textured paint?

And a big thanks to hemicar for starting this.

So few of these OE cars are around to analyze for myself.

The texture is embossed in the base metal, it mimics the vinyl grain pattern very closely, I know of no textured paint that would yeild that grain effect....I'd suggest you buy a real set, they usually sell for $350-$500 depending apon condition

Thanks for the info.

$350 to $500 for a used set. The upward trend of this 'Cuda is on a rocket ship to the moon. Gotta find a way out of this hobby before I have to send the wife out job hunting.
